Shout out to the incredible venue and amazing volunteers that made a fun and exciting time!
To the RI’s and CSA that spent the majority of Thursday in the pit trying to help us find an elusive ground short causing brownouts.
Mr. Agnew of 3655 also helped, calmly talking our panicked kids through calm troubleshooting. (They need a Woodie Flowers part Deux award for the mentors that help you be a better mentor. )
To 3656, who didn’t qualify, but came up anyway to dance and cheer on their colleagues on other teams.
I am totally zombified from this weekend, but I know more people also had amazing moments.
This was an absolutely amazing event, and I’m grateful for the volunteers that made it great. I don’t envy them, we all saw the awful field issues they had to put up with. Hopefully 2023 FiM District Championship is just as great.
Emmm, in 2022 Wifi would be really nice. They have lots of excuses, but Wifi worked fine at Milford and Belleville Districts without lagging the Robots. GEMS did not not have problems with being dropped during matches at those two Events, only in Auto Semi Final at States on DTE Field…
After the false fire alarm. we were advised to text our Team mates as part of safety protocol. WE CAN’T, there was no Wifi access. It was only available on Wednesday…
Dropping off and then being told to leave during a heavy down pour was not very Christian, but then competing on Easter weekend followed with only a week to Houston. Hello, is there anyone thinking there at FIRST?
This is the appreciation thread, for positive comments towards volunteers, sponsors and teams that contributed to the joy and inspiration of the event. If you have concerns, complaints or frustrations, please start a new topic.
I think SVSU has become my single favorite venue for FIRST events. The layout is so thoughtful, and even with the internet connectivity issues, they clearly put in the effort to make information and resources available to humans and robots. I suspect this is because they’ve had 4 years to iterate on it, and queueing+traffic has significantly improved in kind. The event staff and volunteers were helpful and enthusiastic, and it has the FiM magic of obviously prioritizing student experience. From speaking with volunteers, they were well taken care of by the venue as well. From what I’ve heard, there were no gates closed on teams approaching the field, and they were not hesitant to replay where appropriate.
MSC once again feels like the most forward-thinking in-season event to me. Naming fields after sponsors and the ESPN broadcast give the presentation an exceptionally modern gleam. and I hope to see us back next year!
I appreciated all of the volunteers that made Aptiv field a joy to be on. The team Queuing was great, field was great, the consistency in reffing, the head ref(sorry I didn’t catch his name i think he’s a west sider, we generally stay in the east) was all about team experience which is rare. Also would like to thank everyone that slowed down the process in the semis to let us get back to full strength for match 3. The #1 alliance of 2767, 503, and 5612, thanks for being ok with trying to let us have as much time as possible to fix our issues, in the end we sat dead for the match anyways, as we just ran out of time but it was the thought that counted. Thanks again.
Volunteers and FiM staff as always put on a top notch event. Reffing was on point. Inspections went smoothly. FTAs and FTAAs were heroic as always. Queueing folks were friendly and understanding. I love playing at MSC.
Special thanks to the folks with the jobs that require them to ‘be the bad guy’ as those are always the toughest jobs.
The person who had to ask everyone if they were going to the bathroom or the field.
The pit admin folks who policed the pits for opening ceremonies.
The safety glasses table.
I had a lot of fun supporting Dan and Dan on the color commentary during play offs. Thanks to the FiM folks that set that up and to the sponsors who make it possible.
Thanks to folks at FiM who figured out how to get everyone’s robots to Houston and arranged it and got us all those crates. Shoutout to those who are making the long haul to Houston taking all the tool boxes and ‘super pits’. Seeing everyone help each other pack up and squeeze every last thing into trailers was one of those moments you realize how cool this program really is.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in Houston, but MSC is always the event I enjoy the most every year.
That HR is Justin Preston. He’s a champion. Really sees the event from a team perspective, while calling the match with very close attention to getting it right. A model for referees to emulate.
Also agree that #1 alliance did the right thing. They all wanted to play a 3v3 match.
