[FiM]Michigan State Championship

Well, it looks like FiM posted more details of the event like venue maps and a schedule.

Heres the FiM event page:

And the SVSU event page:

This thread is for discussion of the event and when the team and division lists come out, discussion of that.

Ouch, only one practice field? Here’s hoping they are planning on using the division fields for Wednesday night and Thursday morning practice as well. I remember MSCs practice field last year being pretty crowded with 100 teams.

I am almost certain the division fields will be hosting practice matches for Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. I’m mostly glad for a separate (real) field for autonomous testing if we need it during quals.

I was also a nice surprise to see the practice field - where did FIM get the 5th field from?

Interesting that alliance selections will be end of the day Friday. I’d bet teams would want more than a 30 minute break after matches before that starts.

FiM has nice friends. I’d assume FIRST.

The agenda shows 4 hours Thursday and 8 hours Friday for qual matches.

IIRC, typical district agendas show [strike]10[/strike] 11.5 hours total (8.5 Friday + 3 Saturday) for qual matches. So, it appears the MSC qual schedule is padded a bit. This could mean more time between matches (slower match cycle rate), or just some allowance for technical issues. Either way, scouting and strategy will have to use that time to get picks lined up.

It means that almost none of the district events finished on time, especially on Friday. So they added some time.

Also Saturday at districts was somewhat less than 3 hours scheduled - usually there were 20 matches, which would be 160 minutes.

25-35% 4-rotors in qual matches between the 4 divisions !

Ontario is at 50% 4-rotors.

Michigan & Ontario are pushing new boundaries on Steamworks

it came from Kettering Universities< First Center

Blue Alliance and FRC Spyder stopped posting results part way through the championship QFs. What happened there?

Looks like they’ve fixed it now. A couple of hours ago it looked weird, probably because the FMS was assuming CMP Einstein tourney structure; i.e., round robin among the four division winners. Michigan actually played double elimination semis and finals.

**Congrats **to MSC Champions:
33 - Killer Bees
2834 - Bionic Black Hawks
469 - Las Guerrillas

Wow! It has been a full day and I still can’t believe it.
Our 3rd Michigan State Championship!!
What a tremendous event.

I want to give a bunch of thanks and shout outs:

To the Event Coordinators and Staff,
Gail, Lisa, Margie, Cindy, Tom, Rob, Ellen, and all the hundreds of other who helped put on the 2017 MSC Event.
We all took a big chance by stepping it up to a 4 field event and it really paid off huge. This is by far the best robotics event anywhere!
The event was fantastic and it was all because of the tireless effort of all the many volunteers.

To Justin Howard: Howie, I have known you for almost my entire FRC career. This WFFA Award is well deserved and long over due. You are an inspiration to all of us.

To our partners:

2834 - Andy, Lauren and all the Blackhawks: we chose you first over many others because we knew you were the perfect partner and you did not disappoint. 10-0 in the Playoffs! We were happy to return the favor from last year at Champs.

469: Margie, Eric and all the Guerrillas: How you were passed by in the draft I do not know, but we extremely pleased to be in a position to pick your great team. You played a great mix of offense and defense and were a huge part of our alliances’ success. We now have 5 event wins together. Let’s get some more

To our opponents:

67/2960/1684: The Dow Finals was our toughest series and you guys were great. We have played with each of you on our side in recent events, so we know how good each of you can be. Congrats on making us earn it.

2337/107/5561: Clint, Bob; what a great strategic approach to defense. We totally did not see that coming. You almost got us. Keep thinking outside the box, it makes everything more fun.

6075/2767/5114: Cory, your robot is a marvel, it truly is. Great job in finals, amazing shooting and congrats on the Silver Medals.

To my Scouts: Good pick lists win championships, this weekend was proof. Thanks for all of your efforts, I would be blind without you.

**To my Pit Crew: ** This weekend was great, you were all on top of every detail. There were a lot of little things which could have taken us down, but you kept it all in check.

To my Comp Team: You have the toughest job in FIRST, you have to put up with me and all my mania. You were all amazingly cool and effective under pressure and are true champions.

To BJC: You have been an integral part of our team for over 8 years and this was your final event with us. Great way to finish. You will truly be missed but you will always be a Killer Bee!

To our Team and our Supporters I was so proud of all of you this weekend. It takes everyone of us to do what we do and be who we are.

GO BEES!!

Can someone send me the link to the MSC division assignment protocol. I understand its based on several criteria including district points. I need the actual document, not an explanation.

is that what you are looking for?

Was it because the Jr. drive team was ranked 23rd with a 6-6-0 record?

The Sr. Drive team did great in the finals though.
