FiM Predictions: Week 1 2020

Last year I did this series of threads and they seemed to be fairly popular. Make your predictions for the Week 1 FiM events.

Kettering is probably the Event for week 1.
Some notable teams at this event are:
27
494
2337
5084
3535
1506
1322
245

27 is going to pick 2337 and win the event as the first seed. 494 and 245 are gonna team up and lose to the first seed in finals. 494 with chairmans?

Macomb CC is event number 2 in terms of teams to watch for:
217
302
910
1718
2834
3641

217 gets picked by 910 on 1st seed. They lose to 302 and 1718 on the second seed. 3641 snags the chairmans banner.

Traverse City is number 3:
1596
1918
3357
4377

3357, 1st seed capt., beats 1596, on the second seed. 4377 collects the coveted Chairmans banner.

Finally we have Southfield:
33
3558
94

33 and 3558 win as 1st seed and 94 gets the special banner.

What are your notable teams and predictions for each event?

Overall good. Interested to see what my team (4130) and 548 will have to do with the Southfield bunch.

Just gonna shout out a couple more.

  • 3542 (defending Kettering champs) is absolutely in the running to seed high and potentially win at Kettering.
  • 3539 could be very interesting at Macomb.
  • At Southfield, definitely watch out for 548 and 1481 as well. I would expect 33, 548, 1481, 3538 to make up the finalist alliances.

Huh? Do you mean 3538?

And I think you are missing several other teams that should be on your “to watch” list.

Maybe, I made my list a while back and don’t recognize a lot of teams honestly. Probably should re do my list, but I got homework

Kettering,
Rush seeds first and picks EngiNERDs to beat the second seed alliance of 494 and 245 in the final.
edit: I just looked up and realized that’s exactly what @langsley757 said. lol :joy:.

Macamb CC,
910 seeds first and picks 217 to beat the second alliance of 1718 and 2834.

Traverse City,
1596 seeds first and picks 4337 and loses to the seconds alliance of 1918 and 3357

Southfield,
33 seeds first and picks 3538 and beats the alliance of 4130 and 548 in the finals.

This is the best post in this thread ngl. I highly expect to see Speed and toasters make finals at each of their events. I hope 3539 has a redemption this year, they should be able to pull something special off.

I think you are underestimating the number of teams that could win MCC. All of the teams below could win it.

217
302
910
1718
2834
3641
1188
3539
4961
5114
5424
5436
5860

Personally I think 3539 and 3641 team up on the 4th, 5th or 6th seed and win it all. There are so many great teams at this comp that it will probably come down to the second pick of the alliance, and the lower seeds are gonna have the better pick of the “low hanging fruit.”

Not to mention 1711 and 3572 at Traverse City. Both have had solid robots in the past; I wouldn’t be surprised if either came out on top of the event.

And as mentioned before, there will be a lot more competition than you might expect out of Kettering and Southfield (3542, 7491, 548, 3414, 4130, etc.)

Kettering 1 will be a fun competition to watch.

Kettering Week 1
I believe 27 coming off of a decent year ends up ranking first and picks 3542, trying to take Kettering #1 again. They run into 245 and 494 in finals and it goes a weird way, but the first alliance pulls it out in the third match.
Chairmans 245
EI 1506
Macomb Community College
This competition, I would debate is one of the most difficult in Michigan. Surprisingly 3641 finally ranks first in a week 1 and selects 1718. They get to finals and have to face a strong alliance of 910 and 302(Not biased at all  ). They would lose to the second alliance in the finals.
Chairmans 1718
EI 302
Traverse City
This competition sees a surprising 3572 ranking 1. They are denied twice by 1918 and 3357 and pick up 3618. 3357 as the third seed pulls off the upset with 1711 against 1918 and 3688 and ends up winning the event.
Chairmans 3357
EI 1711
Southfield
33 is trying to win Southfield for the 6th time and everyone is gunning to let that not happen. 3538 ranks first and picks 33. They face 33’s toughest challenge in a week one finals in a while being 4130 and 548, but they still lose in two close finals matches.
Chairmans 33
EI 548

6th seeds pulling upsets?

In all reality though here’s a list of who, in my opinion I think are teams to look out for at Week 1 events:

Macomb Community College -

217
3641
1718
302
2834
4680 (Always finds themselves in the finals week 1)
910
1188
3539
6077
3175
3875
5436

Chairmans Teams: 1718, 3641, 4680, 302, 910, 3175, 3875

Kettering 1:

27
3542
494
245
1506
2337
5509
5084
3322
5150
5067

Chairman’s: 1322, 245, 1506, 2337

Southfield:
3538
33
548
4130
573 (People sleep on 573 every year, yet they’re one of less than 10 teams who have been to every MSC)
1481
3414

Chairman’s: 548, 33, 5531, 1481

TVC:
1918
3357
3688
3767
3572
1596
6121
1711

Chairman’s: 4377, 3618, 3357, 3767

If we’re talking about quals only where 4RP actually matters, I strongly disagree. It’s still week 1. 4 RP didn’t really happen all that often week 1 in 2019, and I’d put the Capacity RP about the same level of difficulty as the rocket RP.

With that said, I’d expect a 3538/33 alliance at Southfield to get the same amount of points that would secure 4RP every match in playoffs.

Good luck to everyone this week!

With Respect to the MCC event people are sleeping on 3539 after seeing their robot a lot of people are going to be surprised.

Wouldn’t be at all surprised if finals at MCC doesn’t have the 1st or 2nd alliance. I think 3 vs 5 is a very real possibility, it’s all gonna come down to who has the better strategy for effectively utilizing all 3 robots.

Also people shouldn’t sleep on 2337 and 1506, I think that could be a nasty 2nd/3rd alliance

Really solid robot and it is ready for week 1

I haven’t seen any of these teams bots (outside 3175, which I tried avoiding taking into account, as well as a picture of 2337 which I haven’t seen any actual demo of the bot), and my 3539 spot on my list is simply due to their subpar 2019. I fully expect them to bounce back this year. And with 2337 and 1506, I definitely wasn’t sleeping on them, that’s just where they ended up on the list with Kettering being such a good event.

Yep understandable I can tell you 2020 will be different for 3539

Wasn’t saying you were sleeping on them just people in general. Your list is the best full list of teams posted so far
