Firebirds Fiesta v2.0

It’s getting close to that time of year again: The Second Annual Firebirds Fiesta! Not only the perfect post-build season party, but a wonderful way to help pitch in with the (very expensive) travel costs for the members of Team 1874, The Amamezians, from Cape Coast, Ghana, who will once again be joining us for the Philadelphia regional this year.

For those of you who made the Fiesta last year, I’m sure you remember how great of a time it was. For those who didn’t, I will give a very quick overview:

  • Team mingling
  • TONS of food (and it’s free!)
  • A chocolate fountain (I know, It was AWESOME)
  • DJ
  • Party lights!
  • DDR
  • Hula hoop contest (?)
  • Pinatas (no party is complete without them)

This year there are a few changes. For one thing, we will most likely have a local band playing for part of the Fiesta, more food, etc. There are some rule changes as well. But, without further ado:

The Firebirds Fiesta!

**What: **Only the coolest get-together in the Delaware Valley
**Who: **Cool FIRSTers, duh.
**Date: **Friday, February 23rd
**Time: **7:00-10:00
**Place: **Mount Saint Joseph Academy Gym
**Price: **$5 at the door, to benefit the Ghanaian team

You don’t have to, but we encourage you to wear your team shirts (for recognition purposes, of course). Also, mentors are always welcome. This year, students do NOT require a mentor to be present to show up, unlike last year. We hope tons of people show up!

For directions or more information, PM me or send an email to [email protected]

Wish we could come, however being in California is kind of an inconvenience. This year our team (399) will be at the Philadelphia regional though (Yes, all the way from California =p). Look forward to seeing you all at the regional, have fun at the Fiesta~

YES! I have been waiting for news about this. Some of my fellow team members have been asking me at every meeting “Whens the Firebirds Fiesta going to be this year?”

With no mentor needed, I am almost sure I will be able to join everyone in the fun. I can’t wait.

I’m sure a few member’s from Dawgma will be in attendence. Hopefully they won’t all be around the DDR mat the entire time though…

Yeah. Me and some team mates are gonna try and make it. Kinda far for us but we’ll find a way to get there.

Karen, I am totally gonna be there… and yes, I WILL do the robot.

I might be able to go, and I will see if I can get some current and past MOE people to attend.

I would love to go but sadly I think that it may be too far for me :frowning: oh well maybe next year, good luck on your fund raising and I hope everyone has a great time.

Hmmm… A four hour drive, huh?

I’ll see if the team’s interested in carpooling…

Wow! The enthusiasm is very exciting!

I forgot to mention before, there is a chance (money depending) that some members of the Ghanaian team will be coming over here for the last week of build season plus some days, which means they would be here for the FIESTA!

fingers crossed

Yay! I know at least a few members of Royal Assault will be coming. We love the fiesta!

Hahaha that was me XD I’m so happy! Thank you guys for having this again this year, I had a BLAST last year! I hope I can go again!..so people, GO! I’ll most-definately be there, and its fun to meet new people! =D

Yay! I’m glad you had fun last year!

We had a planning meeting yesterday about the fiesta, and it’s really going to be a blast. The Ghanaians are waiting for their visa interviews at the Embassy, but we’ll let everyone know once we know if they’ll be here or not.

Come!!

----Karen

If I am unable to make it where could I still send in some money as a donation to help out?

Of course, we are always looking for donations for the Ghanaians. They can be sent to:

The Firebirds Robotics Team
Mount Saint Joseph Academy
120 W. Wissahickon Ave
Flourtown, PA 19031

And now time for another update!

The Ghanaians just received their visas! They will be arriving this coming Tuesday and staying until Wednesday (the day after ship). Unfortunately, this means they will not be coming to the Fiesta, as they will be back in Ghana by that time. BUT you should still come! It’s gonna be tons of fun, and we’ll be sure to have loads of Ghana-related pictures out for anyone who’s interested.

About 30 minutes from us in Philly…Me and some of 321 might be coming, we’ll talk tomorrow.

WAHOO THE GHANIANS ARE HERE…TONIGHT!!

Thanks, Bri.

Well, the Ghanaians are now here, and absolutely freezing in the snow (they don’t have snow in Ghana). As much as they wanted to get their hands dirty right away, the weather is unfortunately keeping many of them away from the basement. George and Jake, two teachers from Aggrey Memorial school, are currently here. The students are with their host families, sledding and drinking hot chocolate and hopefully staying warm. Pictures to come!

Karen

P.S. Thursday is the unofficial Ghana support day/ Befriend a Ghanaian Day.

Come to the fiesta! It’ll be LOADS of fun. Ok, ok, to make you understand this ultimate event, I’ll give you this scenario (note: I am sleep deprived):

Let’s say it’s the end of build season.
Ok? Everybody have that? I’ll pause for a moment to let everybody catch up… ok.
Now, the robot is shipped and you have slept sufficiently for 3 days straight, you think to yourself, “what now?”
You can eat yourself back to sleep OR you can become the world’s fattest man! But, those are not the correct options.
NO! It is dancing! For hours on end! (or eating food in a social setting with like minded hungry people like yourself)
Food holds no place among champions (such as yourself.)
YES! YOU MUST GO!!! BY YOURSELF? WITH YOURSELF? GET SOME OTHER PEOPLE (perhaps friends?) with YOURSELF!?!

In the end, the only point of my post was: GO TO THE FIESTA!

(yes, you. yourself.) and (ME!)

Ok, I know I’ve posted in here about 3764193 times by now, but Caroline Ezzo, the team member who is planning the whole fiesta, asked me to please ask everyone who is coming to send her an email at **[email protected] ** please. I think she wants to get some kind of crude head count together so she can plan for food and such. Cooperation would be greatly appreciated!
