What do you think the best moves to make in the first 10 seconds of teleop are? Why? Do they change depending on where autonomous mode places you?
If you mean the first ten seconds of teleop, I would say the best move would depend on your strategy. If you have a defensive bot, get into the middle of your opponent’s side. If you are offensive, go get a tube.
If the first ten seconds is autonomous, then get rid of your ubertube! Doesn’t matter how, you just don’t want to be stuck with it in teleop.
Sorry, I meant teleop.
I guess the question then becomes how do you get the tube out (throwing, feeder station, both, other?) and which tube is it?
I tried to create a thread on this already but no one really answered the question.
Answer: have at least one Human player throw a circle in such a way that it roles all of the way to the opposite side of the field. The circle tube has a much higher roll ability than the other tubes.
Why: the central part of the field is clear and the tube will have its best chance of rolling into the scoring zone, or at least up against one of your alliances robots.
have one robot score that tube and the other 2 go get tubes from the other zone. This creates a stagger offense which is ideal for this game as there are only 2 feeder stations. In the case that the other human players are playing tight only 2 robots at a time can go and get tubes. In the case that the other human players are occasionally throwing the tubes out right in front of your scoring area (Note: red and blue tubes don’t go very far) that third robot takes them before the other robots and creates another quick score.
Depending on the break down of your alliance’s robot capabilities and those of the alliance you are facing I would even suggest both human players throwing 2 circles at the beginning. This is slightly controversial because some people will argue that you shouldn’t worry about logo #2 until you have completed logo #1 which is a valid argument. My point though is that the white tube can be safely and easily stored in the zone until it is needed.
I hope this helps you Max
First of all thanks a ton for the input.
If I may play devils advocate for the sake of better strategy; If you throw the circle first off then your robot is just going to be sitting waiting for the circle to get there. If it’s waiting it’s not scoring points. Wouldn’t you rather try and have your bot finish autonomus as close to the middle of the field as you feel safe, toss something in to the feeding zone and then throw a circle if the human player thinks it will clear? The way I see it if you can autonomously drive close to the feeding station that’s a head start from A to B you won’t get any other time.
But is that little head start worth not throwing a circle?
I see no reason you couldn’t do both, as long as you were not in the center of the field, which shouldn’t be a problem as you would want to be near the side to get closer to the feeder station anyways.
The circle doesn’t take that long to roll. 3 seconds…
Yea, I’m just putting up an opposing argument for the sake of a through discussion.
Do you think it matters which one you do first?
How are you proposing to roll the circle tube down the field?
The feeder slot is horizontal. Stick your hands through the slot and do it? Or over the wall?
Over the wall, our human player has been doing great launching the circle over the top and getting a roll.
First go get whichever tube is furthest away from your best hanger. Let them build logo’s from far to near, or outsides to middle. This keeps a clearer line of sight to between the drivers and whatever pegs they are trying to hang on.
Depends on if some robot will be “ferrying” I can see that this would work extremely well this year…
