FIRST 2006

I was just wondering if you guys and gals had and expectations of FIRST this year?
*Anything to be improved form last year
*Anything related to the game/ rules

I really was just wondering, also i wondered how excited you are about this year’s season with the kickoff coming up in only 4 days!!

Ahhh…Well, the only thing I really want are no major rule changes from the beginning, and actual, per-spec motors. Please Santa Lavery?

Santa Lavery…Chuckle Chuckle Chuckle

if the the CMUcam is back: better CMU testing software…ours kept crashing every 5 mins, so we had to write our own

well excitement level: max lol

improvements: hmm last year was my first year but i think it was pretty good as it was

rules: well just 1 thing…last year our robot was wide by like a tenth of an inch (or something like that) and they made us file down all the screws, which was sort of annoying…but thats that :S but then again, one can argue that the tiny interferences of the screws is our fault, which is true…oh well

I’m hoping that before we get to any team updates there will be a very clear rule regarding code development after the ship date.

NO need to change rules after the first week of regionals…

or IF rules will be changed do it between the last regional and nationals so teams go through regionals on the same level unless its NEEDED to be fixed or changed

ala the bigger loading zone box after week 1

Oh yes, an update free Rule book would make everyone’s life easier…we all know that its too good to happen

One thing I would LOVE to see is, an Offical Certified Motor Spec Sheet, so we get all the motor specs without an arguements.

Also a 10 Pound Weight Limit bonus 2 days before ship would make dreams come true, and everyone sleep a whole lot easier.

Ah, but a five-pound weight limit reduction about week three would be so much closer to real-world experience. (C’mon, fast-food workers, you know folks change their orders all the time. This is like that, but bigger.)

Perhaps I’m suffering from Laveryitis…

i believe they gave us the specs last year…they were just wrong

You wouldnt have all the rule updates if people didnt try to find loopholes around the rules

As far as the updates… yea, people try to find loopholes in the rules instead of trying to think of “outside of the box” ways to overcome them. The more arbitrary rules they come up with, the better in my book. But I agree on one point, once they give out the rules, unless absolutely necessary (for safety reasons) I don’t think they ought to change the rules halfway through the regional season. I was a Ref in two, and the rules had changed between the two (in reference to the loading zone box).

Good luck Dave… hope yo see you around in March.
