This Tuesday (January 7th) at 7:00 pm ET, we’re back with a very special episode of FIRST Canada LIVE! Myself and FIRST Canada Youth Council member Wren will be doing a deep dive into the new Reefscape game with a panel of illustrious mentors including:
Rishi Jotsinghani - Former 1310 & 3683 drive coach, current 1241 mentor and drive coach
First of all, thank you for hosting this! Something I would like to see discussed are:
1: Possible strategies that can be used in qualification matches and playoffs
2: How the strategy will evolve throughout the weeks leading towards World Championship.
3: Comparing Reefscape to a similar past game such as Charged Up( 2023 game) for interesting similarities and strategies.
I have a question:
I am assuming Everybot will be a tank base. We plan to adapt it to a swerve base, and we want to make it as close as possible to the Everybot base so that adding additional mechanisms is easier. Would you be able to provide the outer dimensions of the Everybot so we can start on the base before the full plans are released?
I’m looking forward to watching this with my students! 9062 just wrapped up our kitbot build (Robots Done Quick) and we have a few concerns with cage impacts damaging the top polycarbonate area. I am interested to see how 188 might resolve this issue when adding on components, especially up high and unprotected ones like previous everybot mechanisms. With big hits from the climbers possible, armor up top might be a viable strategy if playing defense or grabbing unused algae from the opposite side.
It’s 28x32”. You need mounting points 2” from the frame perimeter, which swerve usually have 1” frame rails (width, not height). You also have to pull in the legs, as the swerve motors are where they mount (at least MK4i). We made “field goals” to support the ramp.
We built it yesterday, but it’s too early to run YAGSL.
Also, if you build the top box around the ramp that holds in pieces, I would add 1/2”-1” to the dimension. The top of the box is just zip tied, and if it sinks at all, it pinches the game pieces from falling down.
what do you think are strong robot archetypes that you’ll see on the ocean field in Week 1, and what algae utilization strat do you think is smarter? Net or Processor and why?
