I just got a new car and I am going to put my name on the windshield and I want to put the FIRST logo next to it. I contacted FIRST and asked if I could user their logo on my windshield but have received no response yet (been about 5 days). Anyone have any idea if it would be a legal use of their logo or is permission necessary to use it?

**The rules for this were in one of their PDF’s someplace. Perhaps check HyperRules? **
That would be in the administrative rules PDF, which I never got around to adding into hyperrules…too much info in there…
But, I was able to find the section in question…looks like it’s ok, as long as you don’t change the colors(greyscale is OK) or the logo itself…
We encourage teams to develop and promote team identity. It is a great way to help FIRST judges,
announcers, and audiences recognize your team at the competitions, and it is also a way to help you
create a “buzz” about your team in your community.
You have incredibly creative opportunities in terms of designing your own identity. Every year we see
great examples of how teams “brand” their efforts. These branding activities are a wonderful way to
include students from art, communications, computer, and language arts classes in your team effort. We
see incredible team logos on robots, t-shirts, hats, on websites, banners, fliers, and giveaways.
As you manage your own promotion, you may want to incorporate the FIRST logo in what you do.
Because our mark is registered, both name and the geometric logo, we have a few guidelines for you to
follow when using the FIRST logo:
• Use our logo in a manner that is positive and promotes FIRST.
• Use the FIRST logo without modification. This means that you will use our name and the circle,
square, and triangle as you see it on our website or letterhead. You can use it in red, blue, and black,
or in black and white.
• If you have an interest in modifying our logo, do that only when you receive our permission. We are
happy to talk with you about modifications after you submit a written request letting us know why
you want to modify the logo; how you plan to do it, and where you plan to apply it. Send an e-mail
request to Lori Cohen, Director of Marketing and Communications, at [email protected].
• All Teams and sponsors must obtain approval from FIRST prior to incorporating our logo in any
advertising. E-mail requests to Lori Cohen for approval. Direct all questions and requests for
approval about use of the FIRST logo to Lori, by e-mail or by phone at 800-871-8326 #410.

Oh yeah, and that FIRST inspired speaker box…
(I really need to take a picture of that and post it one of these days!!)
But for the rules, does that mean I have to paint my subs Red White and Blue??? Meh… no problem!!! **
Yeah ive been waiting to see pictures of this for a long time. make with the pictures!
I’m thinking that you could put the logo on your car because a) its free advertising for first, and b) you’re involved in first. I think that you might have a problem say if you had a SEGWAY bumper sticker on your car. But i’m not exactly sure. Do you really think anyoen would give you any trouble for having it?

Sorry, LOL
Actually I (almost) finished this project before we even left for Houston this year…
The box was done and the speakers were in place but, the amp and the wiring wasn’t hooked up!!
It’s actually 95% finished from the original design as of right now.
It works and it is in my car but there was one more thing I wanted to add to it!! (Eventually…)
I promise, I will take the picture sometime this week and post it as soon as I can get back on my computer (crashed).
Is there any chance someone can provide an adobe illustrator graphic of the FIRST logo? I need a vector graphic so I can resize it without massive pixelation. They could design it for me in illustrator, but thats an extra $30 . Thanks for any help
One idea: Here at Purdue University they have these cool magnets that are a pretty good size to put on your car door or tailgate or hood or whatever you wanted to i guess. That would be cool if someone made those but w/ the first logo and they are still pretty thin so they look painted on…
So, what did you actually make the logo on your car out of? Is it vinyl cut on one of those Roland Stika machines? If no, then what? If so, how did you get the four different colors to line up so well? Thanks.
