My name is Tim. I am the president of the Pinewood Robotics Team 1560. As a team we realized that most forms of inter-team interactions are indirect and slow (i.e. Q&A System, ChiefDelphi Forums). We have decided to host a weekly (possibly more frequent in the future) chat on our website, http://www.pinewoodrobotics.com/chat.html. In the future, this could be a 24-7 online chat with multiple rooms.
In the spirit of Gracious Professionalism, this chat would involve both giving and receiving help, advice, and answering any general questions we all are bound to have. In order to make it more effective, we will be inviting NASA mentors and other experienced to participate in the chat.
Please reply to this email or call me if you are interested and register an account on our website. I recommend that you pass on this information to other members on your team and/or your mentors.
If you have any suggestions, comments or questions I would be happy to hear them.
Sincerely,
Tim
President of Pinewood Robotics
This is a very fast/efficient script, register and check it out!!!
The chat room looks pretty cool! I especially like how there can be multiple rooms. I went in there last night to check it out, but was unable to test some of the functions because I was the only one there. I wonder if anyone will be interested in testing the different rooms later today.
You mentioned this is a very fast/efficient script. I wonder how well it will do with lots of people in it. The tigerbolt chat room has always been chaotic when there are lots of people speaking at the same time, and the AIM chats get really laggy really quickly. Those are big reasons I don’t participate in many of those chats.
I think you guys did a great job! Maybe we will see some people in there when they are not so busy building robots ;-).
This could be a very good resource if it became more popular.
This totally beats the evening AIM Chat room
There could eventually be different rooms for Controls, Technical, and Strategy. LETS START USING IT :]
What are the commands, etc., in this chatroom? Like /nick, /me, etc., in IRC?
I personally prefer IRC because I’m already on it most of the time (okay, all of the time) and it’s easier for me to just attach to the server. But I can handle web-based chats as well, just not as easy (I tend to forget about them and come back fifteen minutes later). Still, FIRST chats are generally good.
You can easily edit your posts, so you don’t have to make a new one every five minutes. When viewing your post, there’s a button that says “edit” on the bottom right. Click it, and you can edit your post (within a day or so of posting).
