So how did everyone do? Were pretty disappointed that we didn’t get another power cube. Not having enough cubes so everyone could get another seems like poor planning by FIRST.
I guess I’m not really complaining, I’m happy with the stuff we did get, it just strange that there weren’t enough cubes to go around.
As always a huge thanks to AndyMark for providing this service and the vendors who give up the stuff.
I was also amazed that we got 0 power cubes even with ranking that first. In my opinion if they are going to sell out of something ranked at #1 (both power cube now and navX last round) that item needs to be placed at a MUCH higher price that way teams actually have to make a choice when ranking it first it isn’t just all luck. Also why 3 power cubes? Are they easier to ship that way or something? Seems like a lot to give a single team of such a coveted item.
Got three cubes (ranked them first), a compressor (we have no pneumatics on our robot this year, but it’ll come in handy in future years), and some other stuff.
We didn’t get a lot this year, we did pick up another Jetson TX1 (now we have two), some battery connectors (we already have a lot of new ones just from the past) and then CIM Motors (which as of now we aren’t even using). We were disappointed to see that the power cubes were in such a small limit, we missed out on that just as we missed out on the navX. We also didn’t get the green intake wheels either which we were a little bummed about.
We got 3 cubes as our first priority, then a variety of pneumatic items to fill out the rest of our points. It sucks that some teams couldn’t get cubes when putting them as their first priority. For game pieces, I think it would be more appropriate for FIRST Choice to allow an unlimted number, but only 1 per line item. So if you want 5 cubes, you put them on in spots 1-5… and since everyone wants some, you probably only get 1-2. That would help ensure every team got some, instead of allowing fewer teams to get more while others get none.
If I’m reading the invoice correctly, we got 3 cubes, no intake wheels, and that’s all we ordered. Still have 275 credits left. I asked the team what we wanted, got no response…hmmmm…
The shipping cost for cubes is fun, but I think it’s a good cause to donate to. Yes, I end up giving my own credit card number for FC shipping every year.
We managed to get three cubes by being #1 on our PL. Second on the list was the IMU from analog, which we needed for our second robot this year. PCM listed as third, then four orange shaft collars (Can’t have too much branding!). Didn’t skip over a single item, ran out of credits on item three. A little sad we didn’t get any more compliant wheels, but it’s not the end of the world.
But we did get a VRM, hall effect sensors, another RSL, 2 CIM motors, a Microsoft LifeCam and some reflective tape. I can’t complain, we’ll get more cube crates eventually. Thanks AndyMark!
No cubes.
No compliant wheels.
2 green ring lights (which I think we already had some of, but oh well they’re fine)
1 VMXpi (for the off-season)
1 PCM (for the spares)
2 CIMs (because they’ll surely get used eventually).
Not quite what we wanted, but still good and useful stuff. While it won’t surprise anyone to hear me say this, I’m really happy that AndyMark operates this program.
We won the lottery with the 3 cubes. I am surprised we were allowed to order that many though, might have made more sense to keep it at 1 cube for Round 2 to spread the love. I certainly paid for it in shipping since those cubes are bulky to ship ($60!).
Since sourcing cubes has been a problem in general it would be nice if teams had been limited to no more than 2 or 3 cubes from a vendor for the first two weeks of build season. Would allow more teams to get a few extra cubes to play with early on and would still give lots of time for the big orders for scrimmage events and teams setting up full fields to go through. I know AndyMark has a box you enter team number on that is required for some items like the RoboRio, you could implement this anywhere selling the Power Cubes. If teams want to take the time to have separate orders with REV/VEX/AndyMark they would still be limited to 6 - 9 total. An idea for next season?
Also got CIM motors, some extra gyros, and new gamepads since our 6 year old joysticks were falling apart. Thanks AndyMark and all the vendors who donated to FIRST Choice!
Ours shows the same, still in processing. The employees at AndyMark have it rough this time of year, trying to package thousands of FIRST Choice shipments along with all of the orders they get from teams through their website!
