FIRST Comp in the Sunday Comics!

Hello All;

Check out ‘Sally Forth’, by Greg Howard, in this Sunday’s paper.

The entire comic is about FIRST.

The last panel is hysterically funny, in a sick sort of way.

I would love to know what the tie-in is. No way this came out of
the blue. Either the author is involved in FIRST in some manner, or
was really affected by the ESPN coverage.

If you go to the link below, click on comics on the left, then on Sally Forth you should see the current comic strip. So we’ll all see it on line tomorrow.
The writer and illustrator of Sally Forth live in Minnesota by the way . . .I’ll have to drop them a line. :-Dan

Well I had though that we didn’t get the comic here but found I was wrong.
Thus I have included it at the bottom of this post for all to see. Just
out of curiousity does anyone know the author’s connection to FIRST? It’s
GREAT to see FIRST and individual teams getting into the mainstream
media.

The comic was written by the EE on team 57, Steve Alaniz (thus the 57 bot in the opening frame).
He is not only an EE but also a cartonist and writer. The 179 bot was kind of random because it was the only drawing of a bot that the artist had around and so he left the number on it instead of just making one up. (Or so the story goes)

Kudos to team 57 (B.T. Washington & HS for Engineering Professions / Exxon / Kellogg Brown & Root / Powell Industries) for making this happen and team 179 (UTC/ Pratt & Whitney & Palm Beach Gardens High
School & Suncoast High School & The Benjamin School.) because this is just cool on a national scale!

TAF,

How did you see it? Today’s not sunday yet…

Oh well, for all, I just did a quick search and the San Jose Mercury News posts comics online. All you have to do is give them a few little bits of info and you can get a username and password. Very quick and simple.

Anyway, I put the link below. Check it out tomorrow, we’ll see if this works…

I’ve got the comic (thanks Matt and Brandon) and will email to anyone who wants it. If your interested in it email me at [email protected] and I’ll get it to you as soon as I can. Be sure to look at the robots number, my team was pleasently surprised by it.

Sorry, mistake on my part. The comic I have was forwarded to me by a Team mate and the number on the robot was changed. It should be 179 NOT 217. Sorry for the confusion and false information.

Dan’s link below takes less time overall to get to the comic. By like a minute. The one I posted was in color. But here’s the curious thing. They have different comics up for today.

I have more faith in the link Dan posted below. Try his first.

I would like to thank Greg Howard for plugging F.I.R.S.T.
in his ‘Sally Forth’ comic strip but I have been unable
to search out his email address. If someone has better
luck (skills) than I please post his email address so that
I can thank him and encourage him to plug F.I.R.S.T. again.

Ok… You guys are all wondering how FIRST got in Sally Forth, so I’ll tell you.

The guy who writes for Sally Forth works as a mentor on HSEP/Booker T Washington Team #57. We thought it’s be cool if he could get FIRST in the comic some how, so he said he’d see what he could do… :^) Cool, huh?

Just thought ya’ll would like to know…
