Greetings Teams:
Championship Registration will open up to teams in Tier 2 on Wednesday, November 10 at 12:00 noon EST. Please note that even if you are eligible to register for the Championship, you will not be able to do so until you have selected a regional event.
If you have any questions please contact team support at frcteams@usfirst.org, or call us at 800-871-8326, Option 1.
From the FIRST website on Championship Elgibility:
A selected number of Championship slots will be available for open registration. The slots will be based on the number of years since a team last attended the Championship. All teams will be classified in a Tier, i.e. Tier 6 equals six years since attending a Championship; Tier 2 equals two years since attending. Teams never attending will have their tier based on their rookie year: 2004 rookies are tier 2, 2003 rookies are tier 3, etc. If the number of teams in a tier is greater than the number of available openings, FIRST will use a lottery system to determine team eligibility for remaining open slots. The final determination will be first come/first serve until all available openings are filled. A wait list will be maintained for any openings that become available during the season.
Since there are more teams in tier 2 than openings, I would assume a lottery will take place, or they might go first come first serve. The only lottery last year I believe was for Tier 1.
FIRST actually held a lottery last year for Tier 2 also, but due to low registration opened it up to all Tier 2 teams before eventually holding the Tier 1 lottery.
Edit - Must have been a mistake because they’re not on the list anymore. Looks like a few other teams changed their mind and/or mistakenly registered because this morning there were 93 teams registered and now there’s only 83.
Yeah I wondered about that. I know nothing about 1503, but one of the leaders from 1506 has posted here a few times about being a rookie team. Although it does say on their website that some of the students are from schools that already have a team.

1503 is a rookie team. We signed up for the finals not knowing about qualifying first back in September. We found this info out from 1114 - Simbotics our partner team when they stepped in to start mentoring us.
