**Scholarship Changes to Note:
The Phil Clancy Scholarship **application postmark deadline has been extended to March 19.This $2,000 scholarship is for Michigan FIRST students pursuing a degree in engineering or related technology field.
**NEW Scholarships:
**
**New Hampshire Technical Institute / University of New Hampshire-Manchester **- the Engineering Technology Program at the University of New Hampshire at Manchester plans to award three non-renewable $1,000 scholarships to full time students entering the Engineering Technology Program at the New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord New Hampshire. Students must have been on a FIRST FRC team for the '06/'07 season and have been admitted to both NHTI and UNHM under the dual admission program. The deadline for applications is June 30.
**Wisconsin Lutheran College, in Milwaukee, **will award up to five merit scholarships in the amount of $2,000 per year to high school seniors active on a FIRST team. The scholarships will be renewable annually up to a total of $8,000 as long as the student maintains a 3.0 college GPA. Application deadline is May 1.
**You Can Do It!:
**Many FIRST Scholarships receive only a handful of applicants, so your chance of winning a scholarship is very high. GO FOR IT!
Just to emphasize the chances one might have for receiving a FIRST scholarship, to date the ASME FIRST scholarship has just 4 applicants for 9 scholarships (each worth $5K and transportable to any college/university where a FIRST grad would be pursuing an ME degree). To help, the deadline for this scholarship has been extended.
I suspect that other scholarships might be in need of applicants as well. For FIRST scholarships to grow, we need to encourage students to apply so the scholarships will be offered in the future.
I nominated a student from Rosie last year (they didn’t get it) and I got a phone call from ASME last week asking if I had anyone else I was going to nominate for this year. (The closest potential applicant this year on the team is a Junior). So even ASME is doing soem marketing to get entries…
Come FIRSTers…if these scholarships are NOT used, they may go away!!!
You mention that if these scholarships are not used they may go away.
I’ll point out that even if I take most of those scholarships, the extra tution for going to the US from Canada, and increased living costs are much more expensive than paying for the whole thing here in Canada. I’ve gone through the whole list and there is grand total of 1 scholarship worth my time to apply for.
They are great scholarships when they cost you more money when you win
Plus, how many are for arts colleges advertising on a Sci/Tech site?
Then go out and contact the Canadian universities and colleges you feel would attract students from FIRST and appeal to them to offer scholarshipsfor next year!
