**FIRST EMAIL**/Second Event Registration, President's Circle Extended and NASA Oppor

Greetings Teams:

Second Regional Event Opens

Second regional event and 2008 Championship participants registration will open this **Thursday, October 23, 2008 **at **12:00 noon EDT **viathe Team Information Management System.

Please read the following information to understand your team’s registration status during this process.

Wait List Process

  • If the event you select is full, your team will be added to the wait list;
  • FIRST
    reserves places for late registering rookie teams for every regional event. Once registration closes on **December 1st **if there are any reserved slots left, wait listed teams will then be moved in; - A team can only sign up for the maximum number of regionals for a particular registration period (e.g., two (2) regionals per team). This includes being on a wait list;
  • For each event weekend a team can only sign up or join the wait list for one event (i.e., a team cannot be registered/wait listed for two events occurring on the same weekend;)
  • Teams may drop from any second event wait list via the “Drop Event” button in TIMS;
  • FIRST
    does not issue the wait list. Teams attending any given regional can change at the last moment as their finances are determined, therefore the number of places available can also change. It is also unknown how many late registering rookies there will be. We do not want teams making definite plans based on their place on a wait list when information may be changing.Tip! If you find yourself on a wait list please bear in mind that teams drop out of events for various reasons and many times a wait listed team is able to get into the event of their choice!

President’s Circle **Deadline Extended to December 1, 2008 **
As announced at the 2008 FIRST Championship, President Paul R. Gudonis has invited FIRST teams to apply for the 2008/09 President’s Circle by submitting video ads that persuade other young people to start a FIRST team.

The President’s Circle unleashes the power, energy, and creativity of FIRST teams to recruit new teams. FIRST teams are incredibly powerful in the way they inspire others to celebrate science and technology and to get in the game with them. We’d like to see more of that, so Paul has created the President’s Circle to seek, showcase, and recognize the creative and technology skills of our teams.

The 2008/09 challenge is to create an outstanding video ad and share it with Paul via YouTube. Videos should include compelling messages about your *FIRST *experience and creative use of technology.

If you have not already done so, check out the details and submission guidelines on the *FIRST *website at http://www.usfirst.org/community/frc/content.aspx?id=9166.

Recognizing that this is a very busy time for FIRST teams, the submission deadline for this opportunity has been extended to December 1, 2008.

NASA Opportunity for 9th to 12th Grade Students

NASA is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the Interdisciplinary National Science Program Incorporating Research and Education Experience (INSPIRE) online community for high-school students. The community provides NASA-related resources and educational activities and allows for students to interact with other students, ask questions, and share knowledge. Once selected, students may compete for unique grade-appropriate summer experiences ranging from a one-day VIP tour and workshops to a two-week on-campus collegiate experience or paid summer internships.

The application deadline is December 31, 2008. For more information or to apply, visit http://www.nasa.gov/education/INSPIRE.

Go Teams!

Is anyone else having issues viewing the regional list and/or getting into TIMS? I can’t do either.

Me either.
That servers been down most of this morning.

Yep. Definitely down.

They have been down at least 4 hours. I hope they are up for the second regional registration in 40 minutes

They’re back…

There is presently a message on FIRST that indicates that Second Regional registration will be tomorrow and not today as previously scheduled because of a power outage in Manchester.

So one more day to wait!!

2nd Registration… tomorrow Friday the 24th, 2008
same bat-time… same bat-channel
