Greetings Teams:
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) seeks to recruit 15 Senior Mentors across the United States. Serving on average 20-40 hours per week for a 12-month term, Senior Mentors will recruit and support FIRST Team Mentors and FIRST Event Volunteers. Senior Mentors will work with the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), the FIRST LEGO League (FLL), and other initiatives in the geographic area in which they reside.
Experience as a FIRST volunteer, especially as a Team Mentor with FRC or FLL, is strongly preferred. Priority will be placed on recruiting Senior Mentors who are 55 and older, and candidates who are able to serve in locations identified in the position description.
Benefits of serving as a Senior Mentor include:
A volunteer service honorarium of up to $10,000 (taxable income) for a year of service. The Senior Mentor may instead choose to have the
honorarium, or a portion thereof, directed as a tax-exempt grant to FIRST program teams of the Senior Mentor¹s choosing.
A budget of approximately $1000 to cover the cost of supplies, phone, postage, etc.
Unique recognition as a volunteer expert within the FIRST community.
Expenses-paid trips to Manchester, NH in November and to the FIRST Robotics Competition Championship in Atlanta, GA in April.
Specialized training and support.
