If you had a magic wand and could wave it to solve one problem that FRC faces, what would it be and how would you solve it?

What off the shelf components (other than the KOP chassis) have had the biggest impact on FRC designs, and what kind of new product (which could be reasonably released in the next couple of years) could have a similar impact in the future?

Did you think that teams would still be using the OG AM shifter 15 years later? :yum:

I went in Houston 2018 to his talk about his 20 favorite robots in FRC history, but I can’t remember which one he placed first .

The first time they sold it I bought 13 or 14 of them.
Still have some brand new ones sitting on our display shelf.
Those needed a final stage in order to run them at speeds optimal for game play.
I believe thats why they came out with the Super Shifters later.

I’m a little bit shaky with the differences between the gen 1 and the gen 2, although timeline wise the gen 2 makes more sense. Since 2018, we’ve used the guts between some custom plates. Still works, still cooks. We were supposed to figure out if shifting was still useful in the age of brushless power this time around, but looking at everything now, the andymarks might have yet another year left in them.

Actually, you’re right! My memory is terrible. I forgot about the Gen 2 shifters. Super Shifters came out later.

Two different shots of the talk. He placed ChiefDelphi’s (Team 47’s) 2000 robot at #1.
