Where do they rank on the all important metric of sequential alliance partner numbers? (https://www.thebluealliance.com/event/2005gl#awards look at winners)
We completely overlooked these possibilities when we registered for Lake Superior… We hope to learn from our mistakes and do better in future years.
Well…
We got 2500 - 2501 - 2502 at Medtronic. I think that is the only one.
3 tournaments have 2/3rds of the 3275 - 3276 -3277 possible but they couldn’t quite get on the same page.
Great Northern sucked up 3292 preventing Lake Superior from having 3291 - 3292 - 3293 - 3294.
2503 is on the wrong side in Duluth breaking up the 2501 - 2502 - 2503 possibility.
If we could have got the Trappers to come from Alberta we could have had 4623 - 4624 - 4625 at Northern Lights.
4664 could go across the street in Minneapolis for the 4663 - 4664 - 4665 alliance but that loses the only palindrome.
Let’s just plop one down in Watertown! My team would be very happy about that
4664 confirmed most desirable teammate in Minnesota.
I think the answer to this question in this thread massively under sells the value of a Hub/Alliance/Conference. The basic idea is you get a group of similar geography teams together and get them talking and collaborating. The practice is it takes 7 to 10 teams and gives them a structure to take on bigger projects as a group. So instead of 20 to 30 kids taking on a project, it is 150 to 300 kids taking on a project.
The SW Hub week 0 we hosted doesn’t happen without the rest of the hub providing field elements and man power. Same with the off season events around MN.
It is the first line for resource sharing. We shared a bus to champs last year with a fellow hub team. It is the first line for advertising for fundraisers. If a Chipotle or DiVannis is willing to do a fundraiser the other hub teams need to eat. It is first line for help at tournaments. We had an intake burn out at state in 2016 and fellow hub team instantly had a replacement. It is a first line for getting kids to socialize with other teams. It is a first line for mentor help.
Basically it is all the best things about FIRST and making it year round.
This.
HAC’s really raise the floor for teams - especially the lower resource teams. I had a nice chat with 2502’s mentor and his comment is ringing in my head. Paraphrasing, but the message was essentially:
*“most teams can’t afford to do it all - so those of us with access to more resources should help out those that don’t.” *
What 2502 has done with the SW Metro Hub Week Zero event in just one year is nothing short of spectacular. And, from what I saw, all of the other hub members played a role in helping out with the field, game pieces, etc. Along with that, all of the SWMetro Hub teams were able to field competitive robots.
In our own hub (Central MN Robotics Hub) we have 16 teams with 12 that are highly engaged. Since 2015 we grew from 6 teams and most are 2-3 years old. We concentrate on culture-building as well as robot builds. We share resources, space, and talent. Two of MN’s CSA’s (and now one 19yo Labview expert CSA in training?) are from our hub. Next year we are looking to split off some of our eastern teams so that we can be more flexible. CMNRH stretches nearly 150 miles from east to west. For what we do on a monthly basis the current model works. However, we meet once a week during the season and it makes it difficult for those on the edges to make that commitment every week.
Much like the SW Metro Hub, we have helped to grow FRC with the JUMPSTART family of training events, SpecCheck, and an FTC League (see FRC Districts), COR Robotics camps, etc.
Since MN won’t go to Districts any time soon, HAC’s help to fill the void of inter-team development and camaraderie.
Invite us to MN State and we’ll see what we can do.
Will not happen if the MSHSL and FIRST in MN have their say. But if we renamed it the Minnesota Territory Champs…
It would be cool to invite ND teams to MN State since we are so close and always at the same events, but MSHSL wouldn’t be too keen on the idea. Maybe if it was a FIRST event it could happen.
Just continue to help us get FRC re-established in the Red River Valley then on to the rest of ND & SD. We can iron out the details of a Minn-kota champs later.
I like that, Minne-kota… Can’t wait to see you guys at Great Northern!
Not to ■■■■ on a parade - but since ND, WI, and IA have their own regionals right next to MN - I really do see a path forward on MN going to Districts real soon.
GNR is Week 1, Iowa Week 4, 7 Rivers is Week 6. This truly allows for MN to break off into Districts with the MSHSL/FiMN Champs to fall on Week 7 and still allows for MN teams to travel (not to far) to fill up the nearby regionals.
With the incredible growth of HAC’s (and their respective events), LRI’s, CSA’s and all other Volunteer Positions - FiMN is in a good place now more than ever to move to districts. I know one MN team that would benefit greatly (think HOF) if MN finally moved to districts.
But maybe I am just dreaming…
Oh boy… please no, not here, the vibes are so good right now.
and I am assuming you are talking about our friends from Clarkston?
Sorry - please, no one else comment. I lost my mind for a bit. We need to decompress…
Repeat after me:
“Minn-Kota Championships”
“Minn-Kota Championships”
“Minn-Kota Championships”
Is it gone yet?
All better.
I’m full of good names: “Battle for the Badlands”, “Through Furrow Rendezvous”, “Red River Rave”, “Gray Duck Cluster… ummm excuse me”
You missed Traverse Lake Triad…
“Thirty Below S**t Show”?
Okay, I am done with the questionable satire event names.
“Fargo-Roseau Variety Show”
The “Twin Cities to no cities”?
“Frozen Lakes to Blowing Flakes”?
