You need your own show!
I’m a Region Recap host for F.U.N., Does that count?
That being said I am hosting co-hosting South/Southeast, the land of… hmmm this one may take a little thought.
“Snow blown district” <- hey then y’all could say you have a district and everyone wins?
I wanted to close on this.
I went back and looked at what possible sequential alliances exist in MN.
These sequences were possible in 2018:
2498 - 2499 - 2500 - 2501 - 2502 - 2503
2511 - 2512 - 2513
2529 - 2530 - 2531 - 2532
3275 - 3276 - 3277 - 3278
3291 - 3292 - 3293 - 3294
3297 - 3298 - 3299 - 3300
4663 - 4664 - 4665
Only the 2500 - 2501 - 2502 chain landed together at Medtronic in 2018.
If 3083 visits from Israel, I am sure we can organize a 3081-3082-3083 at some point
All of the webcasts for the MN events can be found on the mnfirst.org website:
Great Northern Regional
Lake Superior and Northern Lights Regionals
Medtronic Foundation and North Star Regionals
Before you ask, I don’t have links for the LSR stream just yet, but once I do I’ll have it up there. All of the other events are part of FIRST’s Twitch channels, so they were easy
How do you propose the pronunciation of the phrase FiMN would go? Is there any chance everyone would just assume you’re talking about FiM?
I don’t pronounce it by the acronym. FiMN is just proncounced ‘FIRST in Minnesota.’
Bison Robotics is on our way to the Great Northern Regional! Couldn’t be more excited to support an event in our own backyard!
Usually I make bogus predictions about events around this time of the year, but I’ll just make 2 mini predictions instead:
-
4539 will be in the finals of GNR after a dominant performance throughout the event
-
4818 will select 7048 in the Playoffs and their built in cohesion will make them a scary alliance in the Playoffs
Bonus Prediction: 7048 wins RAS (I’m not biased at all)
2/3 so far… or at least close enough! Hoping to see the third one
Excuse me, I selected 7048 and 4818.
In all seriousness, that was one of the most fun alliances I’ve been on. Many thanks to both of the Fargo teams, and to you for helping all of us out. Every time I think I know what my best competition experience is, there’s always something that rivals it at the next one.
EDIT: You’re right!! I’ll hopefully see you in Detroit, 7048!
This was such a great event and alliance to kickoff 7048’s rookie season. Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers that made it possible!
Congrats on such an amazing rookie season!
That was a crazy fun alliance to be a part of. Definitely had some seriously good strategies going. We just had such a small margin for error. I think we played it as well as we could’ve! Very impressed with 2491’s drivetrain and defensive ability. Reminds me of your 2013 robot. Dominant defensively. Can’t wait to see you compete again.
Congrats to 5172, 4539, and our hub team 6175! You guys were crazy competitive and I think that alliance would beat most later season alliances. I don’t know if there’s a more competitive alliance in any other week 1 event in the world. I’d certainly have my money on you.
Congrats to 2500 and 2220 for EI and CA respectively! 2220… if you ever went to Minnesota events maybe I would be more aware of this, but your program blows my mind. Your video and outreach programs reminded me of many of the Championship Chairman’s Award teams. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if you win on the big stage. Huge congrats to you.
To 7048… you guys are the best rookie team that I’ve ever seen in person. It was an honor to be a mentor for you, even in the extremely limited capacity in which I helped. Let’s do the same thing at Champs. We can do something special.
To everybody at the event, it was awesome getting to work with so many teams and talk with so many awesome people! I wish this thing ran another day so I have more time to talk to everybody!
To 3102… Your work in bringing your AndyMark field took the event up 10 notches. Seriously the only other event that I’ve been to with a real practice field is Champs. That’s huge and your work should be appreciated by every team that attended GNR.
To 5172 and the RPC… you guys killed this thing. The Great Northern Regional was one of the highest quality events I’ve ever attended. The quality of teams was excellent from top to bottom, the venue was spacious and accommodating, and the kicker for me was Yoji’s song/riding in on a snowmobile… like seriously that was unreal. I’ll definitely be at GNR next year.
Im sad now…
JK, I was cheering you guys on from my couch! great run by you and your alliance!
PS: did you guys get a wild card?
Thank you! Worry not, I still love you guys. North Star last year was an absolutely unforgettable experience.
The only team that got a wildcard was 525. We’ll try to qualify at North Star. Excited to see you at Duluth (and maybe State…fingers crossed)!
Thank you! From the videos, I’m absolutely psyched to see 4607 and sad that I can’t make it to Duluth. And a big +1 to everything else you said. This was an incredible event.
GNR was truly great. At this point, I think you can expect us back next year!
With all of my heart, thank you all for the kind words. 7048’s kids had an incredible experience, in part to so many different teams. If I started naming them off, it would quite literally be the entire GNR team list. So instead, I’ll mention our alliance partners.
Without piggy-backing off of 4818’s success, design, programming, and student mentorship, we wouldn’t have been nearly as successful. They guided our rookie team through all facets of FIRST, from prototyping, assembling, designing, programming, testing, Gracious Professionalism, and so much more. Now to just continue working and getting them into champs at their Iowa regional.
And NoMythic - you guys were the spirit that surged through the entire competition. Our drive team would not shut up about how much fun you guys were always having. No matter the outcome, you were always having a blast. Forever thanks for picking us to be a part of your mythical alliance. Now make it to Detroit so we can see you again.
I vote we continue with the tradition of confusion and make the official name “FiM”.
It would jive well with “U of M” which means one thing in Minnesota and is interpreted completely differently (incorrectly) everywhere else as “University of Michigan”. It is obviously the University of Minnesota.
Thanks a ton for recognizing us here. The video was made by me, but would not have been possible if not for the amazing outreach that the entire team is interested in doing. It took what felt like forever to make it and to be recognized for it here on CD is amazing.
