I was hoping these were done with.

Thanks for your feedback, Cooper!

this is our punishment for the water game memes

edit: i’m still gonna make them though

I don’t think they liked my feedback.

I’m all for some kind of video competition but why do we keep beating the same drum over and over.

How about a FIRST commercial competition, highlight reel competition, inspirational video competition, recruitment video competition, instructional video competition, anything else really?

I agree. We have a lot of students with video talent on our team but almost no students on our team who would enjoy creating a cringy video parody.

FRC Rapshody was the only good parody. I don’t feel like anyone will be able to replicate it. I agree that first needs to make a different video contest instead of beating the same horse. I personally would like a best event recap contest.

PLEASE!!! All of these ideas sound more helpful to teams, more exciting to work on with more incentive as they would be tangibly helping FIRST/the teams , and if done decently will be much less of a cringe-fest.

Props to teams on all their hard work put into their parody videos, I just hope that the result of this hard work can go further beyond team social media, the occasional Chief Delphi blast, and filling time at competitions.

FIRST’s brand of humor/marketing process would fit so well in /r/FellowKids…

Submit a video in one of those veins to FIRST and show there’s interest in those genres.

How else will I get “XO BUILD SEASON Llif3” videos to mute before kickoff?

It boggles my mind how FIRST continues on with parody videos when we have talented and competent media people involved. The “This Is Not A Robot” video proved PR pieces could be done without inducing bad memories, the 1619 IRI Recap had some of the best tracking I’ve seen done in recent memory, Spectrum’s new press-piece was quite good, and there are countless others I’ve undoubtedly seen.

I’d almost rather teams push to make content that would, “Make It Loud”, so to speak. Basically… do whatever you were planning to do anyways, but kick butt in doing so.

One look at a FIRST competition playlist will tell you why that is happening. Time to update the iPod,

I’d rather they endorse an offical reveal video contest instead of the parody videos.

This is tradition though, so as cringy as the videos may be, First should continue to promote this idea because what would a competition be like without hearing these parodies?

So, so much better. That’s what it would be like.

I’m not sure something that’s only been done for a year qualifies as tradition.

2 years? Maybe? Still not tradition, though. Might be a habit instead.

Seriously, though. Some of the parodies are OK. Some are funny.

But even of the ones that make it to the regionals, the ones in the categories above are outnumbered by the “really?” type of video. While I like a parody as much as the next person, it needs to be done well.

I definitely agree on having different types of videos in the competition. Reveal videos, promo videos… Chairman’s videos from past years/previous events of the season…
