Anybody else see who the official sponsor for the FIRST Robotics Conference is? Is there some company also called the Central Intelligence Agency or is the CIA joining FIRST?
OMG, Iām likeā¦stunned to read that. I donāt think the US would let someone else have a company with the same name as the CIA. So, my guess is probably the REAL deal. How oddā¦Maybe theyāve finally realized the best and the brightest come from FIRST!
I did a Google search and I couldnāt find any company sharing that name so I imagine it is the CIA.
Perhaps theyāve got agents undercover to find out what this āFIRSTā thing is all about.
Just wait until the CIA finds out about ChiefDelphi!
Well, if it helps, I did a Hoovers search, a Dun & Bradstreet Million Dollar Database search (both company searches), and a GuideStar (nonprofit) searchā¦and nothing came up except the actual agency itself.
I think it was a year or so ago that I heard the CIA was showing an interest in FIRST. For all I know it could have been much earlier than that. I believe they attended some events and maybe did some recruitment (not sure on that last one). In any case, Iām sure that as BandChick said ātheyāve finally realized the best and the brightest come from FIRST!ā
A friend of mine graduated from high school and team 116 two years ago and last summer started working for the CIA .
Nah⦠I think its Beatty. They never did start liking the Mafia.
The CIA was at Nats last year, isnāt it there job to be ever where? They were there handing out info on joining the CIA and there internship programs. I got a pen and a cool CIA pin from them last year, but for some reason i donāt remember anything after thatā¦
Kyle, you know, uh, thatās not real. Yeah, that was a movie⦠Men in Black.
Uh, gotta go.
runs downstairs
How was that guys?
CIA - āGood, now convince Dave to eat Dunkin Donuts, the āspecialā onesā¦ā
Me - āUhhā¦ā
CIA - āYou donāt want to wake up working as a freshman on TechnoKats, now do you?ā
Me - āOkā¦ā
The End (?)
CIA recruits just like anyone else.
The NSA really recruits in the local high schools here and has intensive summer internships.
Itās a secret.
Oh band chick you make me giggle. We cannot forget those of the CIA which also stands for the Culinary Institute of America.
Telling the CIA they cannot participate in FIRST would be like telling a team sponsored by the Coast Guard they couldnāt sponsor.
Umm, Iāve been posting on Usenet for eight years, and frequented Compuserve forums dating back to the mid-80s. I consider myself pretty adept at spotting a good troll. I swear I canāt tell if this is a troll, a joke, or a mistake. The referenced Website actually says: āFIRST Robotics Conference Sponsor
Central Intelligence Agency.ā
I know āCIAā is more popular, but itās really hard to misunderstand āCentral Intelligence Agency,ā isnāt it?
I would not be to surprised they were at Championship last year recruiting in the same place the colleges were. I guess they all are looking for smart kids and have found a place to get them .

Yeah⦠It has been a running gag with my family about working for the CIA. They are actually recruiting undergraduate engineering students for those people that are interested. Co-op program I wonder what the CIA wants with engineers⦠Maybe we will make cool spy gadgets. Get a scholarsihp with the CIA. Scholarship
There is a conference sponsor ALONG WITH charging people to attend the sessions?
For the record, I am honored to be able to participate in the conference, but I donāt agree that attendees should be charged. I see the reasons why, but I also see many reasons why charging is not a good idea.
