so i was just thinking about my teams driver, and how he kind of thinks about stuff when he’s driving, and thought he probably though about it like a video game…then i was like, wow, it’d be pretty cool to have like, a FIRST Robotics video game or something…eh eh??
Lockheed (i think) provided an overdrive simulation at one of the regionals. I also heard of someone doing “Aim High” as a senior project.
If every team had a publicly distributed copy of the year’s game and could play online with their cadded robot then… wow… that would be nothing short of awesome!
I’ve had this thought as well.
Even sketched out some concepts. And I don’t want just driving robots - I want a (simple) interface to DESIGN your own as well.
Even if all you can do is pick your drive style, wheel types, and gear ratios; and maybe have simple arms - how awesome would it be?
Realistically, it would be nigh on impossible to develop one of these in the window of time between the finalization of a game design and kickoff
please search before starting new threads. There are many threads on starting video games for FIRST yet none of them seem to go anywhere far. lol. It would be an awesome idea though!
Yep - Dave Stevens, some other programmers and I (LM employees at the Manassas VA campus) put together a simple game for Overdrive. Considering that we cobbled it together in our spare time after the build season started, we thought it turned out really well.
We showed it off at the NASA/VCU Regional in Richmond VA (always a good time). We and our guests (the students) had a lot of fun with it
Dave, I and the other folks have many of the the same ambitions as many of the folks who put posts into this thread and others.
Why don’t you add your desires to the info/suggestions already in this thread here about “our” game or the in other thread mentioned there.
Like the other fellow suggested (it is always a good idea to search before (re)starting threads).
