FiT Rodeo Rankings - 2024

Week one is here, and Texas events will kick off soon. This thread is for general discussion/prediction of the FiT events. @lynca started a similar thread last year and it was a fun place to discuss the First in Texas District.

15 of the states top EPA teams will be competing week one in a FiT event.

Waco

There are so many good robots at Waco with 10 of the top 25 EPA teams in Texas.
3005 RoboChargers had a fantastic 2023 season and will try to improve on that. The Westlake teams of 2468 Appreciate , 2687 Apprentice , and 2689 Alpha will always be in the mix. Blackhawk 3310, Valor 6800, Howdy 6377, Lady Cans 2881, ausTIN CANS 2158 will all be pushing for the top spots. I haven’t even mentioned event winners from last year P-51 Mustangs1745, RoboPop 3802, 5613 ThunderDogs and the BionicPanthers 8088. The tastiest team in Texas BBQ 2714 and their near by Dallas team of 2848 Rangers will also likely be part of some pretty tough elimination alliances. I really look forward to seeing how this event plays out because I have no idea who the favorite is at this point.

Katy

Katy has a bit of a different feel. With 5 of the top 25 EPA teams in Texas It has some strong bots but it is hard not to put 118 Robonauts as the favorite with 624 CRyptonite as a close second. Vector 8177 has put together some very strong bots the past few years as well as 1477 Texas Torque. 2582 PantherBots have piled up a significant number of event finalists the past few years and are looking to break through here. High Voltage 231 and Golden Warriors Robotics 8576 both had event wins last year and would like to continue the success.

World Travelers

4206 Robo Vikes will be traveling to South Florida again this year to kick off their season in the sunshine state.

I am certain I forgot to mention some key teams that will play significant roles in these events. I am looking forward to see all of the robots from the Lone Star State.

We looked at Waco and then remembered what Waco threw out there in 2023 and said, “Mmm, nope”. While Katy is no slouch of an event and it will be almost anyone’s game, Waco is too tight to predict.

Week 1 Recap

After week 1 it looks like 2468 and 3005 are the two top teams in Texas. They played the game a bit differently than some of the other top teams in the state using a passing and feeding strategy that seemed to pay off big. 118 looks to have a very capable machine that can put up big numbers in a hurry.

I know 3310 and 231 were able to successfully score in the trap, any one else?

Week 2 Events

Belton

The favorites for Belton are 3847 Spectrum and 5414 Pearadox. Other strong contenders 6369 Mercenary, 5829 Energy Heros, and 8019 Patriot Engineering. Keep an eye out for 9140 Robobots they had a fantastic rookie campaign last year.

Plano

148 Robowranglers would be considered favorite in this event. The next group of teams trying to make it to the top would be 5431, 1296, 9128 and 5572. 2848 and 1745 are making their second play so they may have an edge especially early on.

This should be a fun week and I am looking forward to see what happens.

yknow, i think we did alright

Using my extremely rough calculations I believe cut off for DCMP will be around 50-48… @Stuart Round 2?

Shout out to @RicDV who’s team went from being ranked 29 and not getting picked for playoffs at Waco to rank 18 and finalist at Belton.

Week 2 Recap

Week 2 pretty much went as expected with 3847, 5414 teaming up with 9054 and ran unbeaten through the playoffs. Plano was a bit more exciting with the finals going to a rubber match but the favorite 148 ended with the number one see and picked 9128 and 9786 to take the win.

Week 3

Both week 3 events look to be very entertaining with some very good teams competing and many on their second play.

Fort Worth

The two favorites have to be 2468 Team Appreciate and 3005 RoboChargers after their impressive team up in Waco. 3310 Blackhawk will be pushing for the top spot with likely one of the few trap mechanisms at the event. 6672 Fusion Corps is making its first play of the year and after the seasons they have had the past few years it is hard to think they will not be in the running. The next level of contenders for this event is in 9752 ITKAN Robotics Jr with an impressive Finalist debut in Plano last week, 2687 Apprentice who was a finalist in Waco, and 2582 PantherBots with a third place in Katy. 4206 Robo Vikes the event host will also be in attendance and likely to play a role. Other bots to look out for 8088 Bionic Panthers, 418 Purple Haze, 5411 RoboTalons.

San Antonio

This event is also very deep. 6800 Valor, 1477 Texas Torque, 624 CRyptonite, and 6377 Howdy Bots are my pics to be at the top of the leaderboard. The next group of bots would be 3679 Rattlers, 5572 ROSBOTS, 314 Chips, 4063 TriKzR4Kidz, 5427 Steel Talons, and 8576 Golden Warriors Robotics, who already has a blue banner this season.

Looking forward to see all the action this week.

Personally, I hope you are right! I will be in SA this weekend…I think after after week 4 we should be much closer to breathing properly! After spring break we will be going at it like we are going…until told no!

Now that we have had some event I hope to be able to do the projections sometime early week.

with an additional 8 slots, my gut says yeah, around that 51-52 area.

I just hope 54 points will be enough…I don’t care where we are on the list…so long as we are on it!!! We will continue like we are going and get all the prep work done. Easier to cancel than to get everything going during week 5.

Im gonna have so many M&M to eat at DCMP

Chad is too modest to say it - but 2582 looked amazing at Katy. Several matches where they had 3 auton scores and 10+ teleop scores. They’ll definitely be improved, they’ll be a contender, and I’m looking forward to sharing the field with them (hopefully with them on my alliance when we do!)

Why you forget us?!?! LOL

Congrtats to all the teams this weekend!

As the points are…some teams some are definitely going to state (DCMP)…some are about to call to the stage…and some are at the bubble area.

Are we still feeling froggy about the 50ish point value going to state?

Week 3 Recap

Week three saw strong favorites win at each event, even though the number two alliance did not make it to either final. The final alliances were all built of historically good robots in the state.

In Fort Worth 2468 Team Appreciate, 3005 RoboChargers, and 7540 Timberwolf Robics rolled through the playoff bracket unbeaten. The top 4 seeded alliances were excellent and relatively evenly matched, making some close matches that could go in either direction. Match 11 (Alliance 1 & 2) and 12 (Alliance 3 & 4) were decided by 5 points or less.

San Antonio had 1477 Texas Torque and 624 CRyptonite team up with 5103 Jaegernauts to win. The number 5 seed alliance made it all the way through the bottom bracket after dropping their round one match to make it to the finals.

Also, congrats to 118 Robonauts for going to the Tallahassee Regional and earning another blue banner.

Houston

(EPAs will hopefully be added later when Statboitcs/FMS issues are resolved)

The favorites for this event are previous 2024 event winners 118 Robonauts, 3847 Spectrum, and 5414 Pearadox. Other teams to watch for are 3735 Vortex, 2587 DiscoBots, 3481 Bronc Botz, and 8515 Photon.

Dallas

My favorites for this event are 148 Robowranglers and 6672 Fusion Corps. The next bots to look out for are 1296 Full Metal Jackets, 2714 BBQ, and 4639 RoboSpartains.

Rogue Rangers LEGACY looked down trodden during the awards portion in SA…UNTIL…

They were SOOOO surprised when they were called for the IA! They were in disbelief!

Week 4 Recap:

Both Dallas and Houston had strong favorites end qualifications ranked number one. Both Texas events ended with the number one seed taking the blue banner home, but interestingly, both had to do it in blue bumpers as the number two alliance sent them to the lower bracket in match 11.

In Dallas, the alliance of 148 Robowranglers, 6672 Fusion Corps, and 8858 Beast from the East worked back through the lower bracket to win.

While in Houston, 118 Robonauts, 5414 Pearadox, 6180 Mechanical Lions, and backup robot 1255 Blarglefish worked their way to earn the gold medal.

Space City @ Friendswood

The favorites to win Space City are previous 2024 event winners, 118 Robonauts and 9128 ITKAN Robotics. The next group of contenders are 231 High Voltage, 5829 Energy Heros, 324 Chips, 5427 Steel Talons, and 7312 T3. I expect several others to make large improvements from their first event to this week 5 event, such as 2158 the ausTIN CANs and 8177 Vector.

Amarillo

The Amarillo event is much harder to pick favorites. 4063 TriKzR4Kidz currently has the highest EPA and made it to finals in San Antonio and has won this event in the past. 4206 Robo Vikes made it to finals in Fort Worth and have also won this event before. 6369 Mercenary Robotics made a deep finals run at Belton. 3676 Redshift Robotics, 9136 Rampage, and the whole group of Talons (5411 RoboTalons, 9105 TechnoTalons, and 9492 LadyTalons) will likely be in the mix.
