I figured out one solution and it may be others as well:
Check to see if there is a java version under C:\Windows\System32 and if you have it go to the control panel under the uninstall programs tab and see what java things are there.
if you are on the windows os of windows 7 then you will want to get rid of all java things that are not version 8 update 101.
if you have the 101 jdk AND jre then it should work if you have uninstalled all other versions/updates
