Format converting

HI i have inventor 7 and 3d Max 6. Can someone tell me how do i convert invetor .iam(assmebly files) into 3d Max files for anmation

I don’t have 3DSMax on this computer, but you should be able to import Inventor files into Max by using the “Import” command off of the “File” Menu.

I already try that, but it only imports AutoCAD and other kinds of files, not inventor files

Look at all the files that inventor exports and that max imports, if none are the same, then search google for a plugin that lets inventor export to a file max imports, or probably easier one that lets max import a file inventor exports.

sorta offtopic, but i just want to mention how annoying it is that there is such a multitude of 3d file formats. Numerous times i have had to do something like you said and end up losing all sorts of information and wasting a lot of time. I understand a universal format is being developed (u3d) maybe that will solve some problems…

.DWG is one of the file types used by AutoCAD, and is savable by Inventor. Merely save your file normally, then choose “save copy as”, and select dwg as the filetype.

I believe that *.ipt files are also importable.
