So we would like to mount a FP motor to drive a gear box, but it would need to have a pinion that could work with the CIMple box gear box. To our display we realized today that it will need another pinion. Any idea how to remove the one on there, and put on one that will work with that shaft size?

One of these guys should work. You can buy them at your local hobby shop. Just ask for a 550 sized motor pinion puller.
My experience with the FP pinions is that they’re a lot more difficult to remove than you’d expect. The pretty much laugh at miniature gear pullers, if you can even fit the gear puller over the gear.
We usually assume we’re never going to use the gear again, and squish it. They’re made of soft-ish metal, so if you squish it REAL hard in a vise, turn it 90 deg, and squish again, you can usually deform the hole around the shaft and it’ll loosen up and slide off. I’ve also heard of teams using nut splitters, but we ruined a nut splitter trying that, so I’m not so sure about that.
My team also had to figure out how to remove the pinions so we could put on the one for the AM Planetary Gearbox after failing several times with various other methods we just cut it off with a dremmel, you just want to be careful so that you dont cut the shaft or the motor
We found a very simple way to do it. We took a 1 x 1 x 1/8" angle and cut a slot in it, just wide enough to fit around the axle, under the pinion. The upturned leg of the angle is strong enough to resist the forces needed.
The we pressed on the shaft with a small arbor press and the pinion hopped right off.

These are really easy to remove. As the person above stated use a piece of angle to support the gear and push the pinion out. We use 2 pieces of angle so we don’t need to slot it then place the angle over an open vise and drive the pinion out with a smaller pin.
