FRC 2017 Competition Field

What scale did you use to make this? Is that explained in the video?

The parts are actual size, so 1:1.

The dimension for the baseline had been corrected in team update 1. It is NOT 9 ft 4 inches (previous manual statement). It is 7 ft 9 and 1/4 inches from the alliance wall (team update 1 statement).

Props to Autodesk for making their CAD more accurate than the game manual.

Is the fuel modeled correctly in the KoP download? Ours is 4" diameter.

We corrected it by making the ball 2.5" diameter and the hole pattern spacing to 2.5" as well.

The field I downloaded has the baseline at 9ft from the alliance wall, is there an updated version out there somewhere?

Check out the field on the Autodesk website.

Let me know if this works.

Phil,

I think that link is incorrect

We have some video of the field from driver stations that we captured through VR. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3IwrBywC7g

That is great, well done!!

Is there any way I could convert this into an FBX file for proper use in Unity? I had seen a video about someone looking at the field through a VR headset and would like to create a similar experience for my team.

Looks like you have to import to 3ds then use 3ds to convert to FBX.

Here are a couple of links.

This is a link to free trial of a conversion software. Always use with care!

Phil…thank you for all of your work–much appreciated!!

Can someone maybe give me a dumbed down version of the FRC 2017 field?
it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey Rocketman,

I whipped up a quick version of the field in Sketchup Make (which is free to use for this). The Inventor version is much more detailed but it made my computer cry so this is the quick and dirty version.

Hopefully this link works (and keeps working): https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6Oh68LLGJ6IVTV6WW80SnEteVU/view?usp=sharing

Please note that it may not be 100% accurate. I did my best but I didn’t have anyone verify the dimentions for me. Also, I concentrated on things at robot height. I have the tops of the airships hidden and I don’t have the ropes modeled. If that changes, I’ll update the file.

Did the SketchUp solution work?

One option in Inventor is to output an assembly Shrinkwrap version of the model. I recommend this to teams opening files in animation applications such 3dsmax.

If you want to try it let me know and I will post a file for you to try.
