2024 Battery Names
The chosen 2024 battery naming scheme is dinos. We have a total of around 25 batteries with 5 of them being from 2024, so we need 5 battery names.
- Chicken
- Brontosaurus
- T-rex
- Stegosaurus
- Triceratops
- Pterodactyl
- Velociraptor
- Brachiosaurus
- Spinosaurus
- Barney

9/25 Update
A huge downside to being a homeless team is that our parts are always being moved around locations and our schedule is constantly changing. We had a schedule change after our last meeting and a few other problems that arose, which resulted in this meeting being slightly delayed while we got our parts (all our parts were in one location and the meeting was in another. We did not plan to go to the location the parts were in, so we had a 30 minute setback and a fun time figuring out what to do and how we would get our parts.)
We had 6 students with 3 staying the whole meeting. There are 23 days until Tidal Tumble.
BUILD
- Added cat tongue taped rollers to shooter shafts
- Remounted orange pi stack
- Tapped holes
- 5/16 holes for gas shock assembly
- Bearing support plate holes
- Spring assembly on Delta Carriage Side Plate
- Marked lightweighting holes for elevator tubes
- Part of manufacturing simplicity where we ācheese holeā the tubes to reduce amount of milling needed
ELECTRICAL
As we have stated before, the robot was wired temporarily just so we could test the drivetrain and intake. Now that the robot is coming along more and events are just around the corner, we are switching over to more of our āfinalā wiring (just a cleaned up version of the wiring. As always, nothing is truly the final version, so it is still subject to change as needed.) Similar to our manufacturing methods post, we will have a wiring post for practices we have done on TOAST later this off-season.
- Added colored electrical tape to the ends of wires
- It is not the easiest to trace wires on TOAST, so this plus our wiring sheet makes it easy to know what each wire goes to and from
- Sleeved our ethernet cables for ethernet switch to orange pi
- We just got our shorter ethernet cables, so we swapped those
- Easier to manage something that acts as 1 rather than 3
LESSONS LEARNED
- When we say something is on our build thread, that is the same as OA

9/26 Update
We had a cutting parts meeting followed by a regular in-person meeting. 3 students attended the cutting parts meeting and 4 attended the in-person meeting with 2 students staying the whole time for both meetings. There are 22 days until Tidal Tumble.
BUILD
- Re-cut elv-25 (it was milled incorrectly)
- Cut new intake reverser support standoff
- Not sure if it fell off during one of the many times we moved the robot or what happened to it
- Lathed the elevator shaft for the cancoder magnet
- Drilled lightening holes in elv-09, elv-99, and elv-16
- Lathed standoffs for delta carriage dead axle to make clearance for 10-32 screws
- Delta carriage 2x1
- Added tube plugs to ends of tube
- Began delta carriage dead axle assembly
- Tapped pivot bushing plate
- Finished sprocket/gas shock assembly
- Failure: Round metal tube spacer for dead axle doesnāt fit onto dead axle
- Fix: Sand down the dead axle thoroughly
- Cleaned our wheels/bevel gears
- Forgot how quickly swerve x got nasty
- Cut down some of the silicone tubing on our intake rollers
- We kept breaking notes which we think was due to the rollers and wheels both gripping and pulling at the notes (like tug of war over the note)
- Asked 5940 what they did and they had the silicone not cover the whole roller, so we are trying that to see if it helps
LESSONS LEARNED
- Always make sure the hardware kit is closed when it gets picked up

your horizontal band saw looks very similar to ours- do you have problems with the band derailing often? how tight to you usually tension yours to mitigate derailing? what band do you guys use, and do you switch depending on material?

Our horizontal band saw is from Harbor Freight. We have not had any problems with the band derailing. I believe we have only ever changed the blade once when the blade broke over the past like 4 years. We only use it to cut aluminum.

We had 6 students attend this meeting with 1 staying the whole time. There are 21 days until Tidal Tumble.
BUILD
We were pretty busy trying to get as much done as possible, so we didnāt get very many pictures. We will have more pictures/videos in our upcoming posts! Shown are pictures from the CAD to show what parts of the robot we were working on
- Attached the new intake reverser support standoff
- Added pulley assemblies to elv stage 1
- Added bearing blocks to delta carriage side plates
- Delta carriage 2x1
- Mounted MAXplanetary gearbox to tube
- Riveted elv-22 to tube
- Added elv-24 (standoffs) and bushings to elv-22
- Added elv-37
LESSONS LEARNED
- Using the heat gun to loosen a bolt that has red loctite is very effective!

9/28 Update
We had 2 students at practice at 4201 and 7 at the in-person meeting after practice with 2 students staying the whole time for both meetings. There are 20 days until Tidal Tumble.
We made a friend (Quackuette approved) (friend does not have a name )
DRIVER PRACTICE
We tested the intake with the cut down tubing and didnāt have any issues with tearing notes! We did not test it as heavily as we have been, so we will be doing more testing next week to make sure the fix truly worked.
Most of our time was spent on software.
BUILD
- Delta Carriage 2x1
- Attached pivot encoder mount to Delta Carriage 2x1
- Attached constant force springs
- Bumpers
- Drilled bumper holes to right size in wood and bracket
- Need to countersink bumper brackets
- Added led strip to inside of robot (the back elevator support tubes)
- Not using the diffusers again because they didnāt make that much of a difference for us this past season and they just add weight
- Shooter
- Added standoffs and 1x1 short tubes between pods
- Should have the side plates by Wednesday 10/2 so we can finish up the shooter then!
- Elv stage 1
- Added funky standoffs to elv-15 and elv-25
- Bolted elv-99 to funky standoffs
- Added tube plugs to elv-09 and attached bearing blocks to it
- Added L-shaped gussets to elv-15 and elv-25 to elv-09
ELECTRICAL
- Swapped USB cables to different length for cameras
- Kept up with the color coding on the new wires!
SOFTWARE
- Cameras
- Calibrated photon vision cameras
- Got cameras to update pose estimation of robot using April tag localization
- Manual driving gets affected from jumpy robot heading estimates fusing with gyro
- Need to investigate giving more weight to gyro when fusing sensor estimates
LESSONS LEARNED
- It is very important to keep columns on parts that need to be tapped and their status (tapped yes or no dropdown) so we donāt realize during the build of an assembly that parts were missed
