Hello everyone,
Rookie FRC Team 6659, Cougar Robotics from Escondido High School in Escondido, CA are proud to present G.R.P.U.T.T.
I love to see how rookie teams find alternate solutions without the use of machining and with common materials.
It’s an engineering art that it rather underappreciated.
This bot has a roof, like they took into account the perils of gears falling off the lift.
I feel like a lot of teams are going to learn about this the hard way.
Add a ratchet (from a wrench!) to your climber and you’ll never have back drive issues again! Lots of examples out on CD.
Hi Conor,
That’s what we actually did
It’s great that you have a cool design and you are having fun with your video.
We ran into this problem a bunch during the Hub City Regional. We wanted an open top to be able to get from hoppers easily, but later saw that balls had little effect on the score and the open top risked a gear getting stuck in there. However, sometimes we were able to outtake it if they land in the right place. After it had cost us a semifinal match, we duct taped a roof onto it for the tiebreaker match.
I really love the use of the PVC and mesh. You guys incorporated them really well into the frame of your robot giving it a superior look and feel. Good luk at your competitions!
Thanks Nathan. The Team actually won Highest Rookie Seed award at the San Diego Regional this weekend.
