FRC 8044 - Denham Venom - 6.68 Slalom (Updated)

Maybe opening a new topic isn’t what I’m supposed to do - but after fixing the issues that we had with our last video submission we wanted to share it again.

And how about another one. This is our Barrel Race run at 9.04.

Comments and suggestions are appreciated - and though you can’t see them - we did use safety glasses and masks.

Very impressive.

Impressive times. However, I noticed in the video you are using the timecode effect to show the path time. This represents sub-second time in video frames. Since your video is in 60fps the actual time is 6 + (41/60) seconds or 6.68 seconds. Same thing for barrel racing, giving a time of 9.07 seconds for that path. Make sure you convert these times from frames to seconds so your score doesn’t get invalidated after the deadline.

Could you explain this a bit more?

I’m also curious if your starting position is legal. While there is no penalty for going out of bounds it does say you must start completely in the starting zone and I’m guessing if you had the outer boundary represented you’d be out that zone. We talked about starting in this position and assumed by the rules it was illegal. Curious to hear what others say!

If you step through the videos you posted frame by frame, you will see that the numbers after the seconds’ digit increment by 1 every frame, with a maximum value of 59 before the seconds’ value is incremented on the next frame. This is because those numbers represent video frames. A timecode of 6:41 represents 6 seconds + 41 frames. Since your video was shot in 60 frames per second, you can convert frames into seconds by dividing the number of frames by 60. For example, 41/60 = ~0.68 seconds. Therefore, giving a time of 6.68 seconds.

Edit: You can use the < and > keys to step through a video frame by frame on YouTube if you want to see what I am talking about.

Thank you! I’ll adjust the times accordingly.

No problem. I’d just hate to see those scores invalidated from the times being a bit off. Can’t wait to see the other paths!

Looking Great

HDC2. The ROBOT must start completely within the Start Zone.
