Team Overview

FRC 8725 is a team of passionate students with a strong interest in technology, and our team name is Misty Panther. We were founded during the summer of 2021 and have already participated in two FRC regional competitions. Our mission is to foster teamwork and develop professional skills among our members through FRC competitions, while also providing opportunities for students to explore future career paths.

Team Motto

“FRC 8725 Keep Going & Dream It”

Our goal is to compete in the Houston Championship, which is not only our team’s objective but also the dream of every member. We will keep working tirelessly and move forward with our dreams!

Team Vision

Our team is guided by the following four core visions:

  • Co-Creation: Throughout our high school journey, we aim to create unique and wonderful experiences for our members by participating in FRC competitions. We also aspire to achieve excellence as a team.
  • Sharing: “Share blessings, share hardships” is our team spirit. We cultivate a sense of togetherness among our members, where we share both the achievements and joys of competition, and enhance team cohesion.
  • Common Good: Through continuous knowledge and skill transfer, we empower younger students, building a solid foundation for FRC 8725’s long-term sustainability.
  • Gratitude: We express our gratitude for the support we receive from the community by organizing STEAM education-related programs, emphasizing the importance of STEAM education, and increasing our team’s impact on the community.

Achievements

  • 2022: Participated in the FRC Taiwan Regional Competition and ranked 28th.
  • 2023: Competed in the FRC Hawaii Regional Competition and secured the 3rd position.

Software

After the stimulating kickoff, our team collectively engaged in the current project. During this period, members of the software team developed a program for note tracking image recognition.

Considering the less-than-ideal visibility for the driver and controller due to the design of the competition arena, we are looking forward to enhancing the efficiency of our robot on the field through the image recognition system. This will enable the robot to operate more effectively.

Hardware

Meanwhile, members of the hardware team have created Prototype V.1. In V.1, our focus is on the shooter, and the mechanism we designed primarily revolves around shooting into the speaker.

This week, members of the hardware group are making Prototype V.2. After completing the design drawings, we quickly proceeded with machining and assembling. Simultaneously, we tested the shooter and intake, and we continue to finish other part and refine the robot for further improvement. The members of the software group are testing the note tracking and PhotoVision.

Meanwhile, new members are making kit bot. We have finished making shooter and trying to make telescope.

We modified our shooter by transitioning from the original left and right placement of Compliant Wheels(picture 1) to the vertical placement, up and down(picture 2), because it grants us an extended range.

Mock competition (2/17)

On February 17th, our team eagerly took part in the highly anticipated 2024 Mock Competition, meticulously orchestrated by the New Taipei City FRC Alliance. The event served as a pivotal moment for robotics enthusiasts, offering an immersive platform for teams to showcase their ingenuity and technical prowess.

As the day unfolded, teams immersed themselves in a flurry of activities, meticulously fine-tuning their robots and meticulously calibrating every component to perfection. The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation and camaraderie as participants exchanged insights and strategies, each eager to push the boundaries of innovation and excellence.

Against the backdrop of spirited competition, the simulated matches provided a captivating spectacle, allowing teams to gauge the effectiveness of their designs and strategies under pressure. From precision maneuvering to seamless coordination, every aspect of robot operation was scrutinized and refined, paving the way for continuous improvement and advancement.

Beyond the thrill of competition, the event fostered a sense of community and collaboration, as teams bonded over shared experiences and celebrated the spirit of innovation driving the robotics community forward. As the sun set on an exhilarating day of competition, teams departed with renewed determination and a wealth of invaluable lessons, poised to embark on the journey towards success in the upcoming season.

Second Edition Machine Overview

Within the second edition robot, three primary structures stand out: the shooter, intake, and elevator.

Intake

The intake mechanism is engineered to directly retrieve objects from the floor, minimizing reliance on sources. Following retrieval, it rotates 180 degrees to position the object for seamless transfer to the shooter.

Elevator

The elevator system is meticulously crafted to optimize the shooter’s firing trajectory by providing an elevated platform. This design minimizes the need for significant angle adjustments during the shooting process, ensuring precision and efficiency.

Shooter

The heart of the system lies in the shooter, where two jelly wheels are strategically employed to propel projectiles with optimal initial velocity. The note’s journey begins atop the intake, seamlessly transitioning onto the shooter for precise targeting and delivery.

Third Edition Machine Overview

Within the third edition, our main area of modification was centered around our shooter. In the previous iteration of our shooter, specifically in the second edition, we encountered a critical issue with our hub’s inability to securely fasten onto the hexagonal column. This flaw resulted in significant shaking of the shooter during movement, rendering any data collected essentially ineffective.

Shooter

Consequently, for the third edition shooter, we opted for a direct fix by locking it into a predetermined angle, ensuring a consistent elevation throughout its operation. This adjustment aimed to mitigate the instability issues we faced in earlier versions, thereby enhancing the overall performance and reliability of our machine.
