FRC 9106 - Spires Weekly Adventures 2023 - Week of 6/26

A lot has happened since the end of the “Charged Up” competitive season. Our plan has been to meet twice a week in the post season. We recently moved to a workspace off site, graciously hosted by @thatoneteam 4967. They have opened up their doors to us in our time of need for consistent summer space. Thank you That One Team! We have recently been working on CAD instruction with the help of one of our mentors. Coach Lucas has written a tutorial for #onshape. The lessons he has written are focused to what aspects our team will need to learn and to grow their interest in designing parts and components of our future robots. They have taken to it well and are learning more and more every meeting. In line with CAD we are simultaneously focusing on improving parts of our robot for upcoming competitions this summer and fall.

We have also been in discussion with parents to develop a deep support culture for our team. We have been working on developing our social media reach. Creating quite a few different social media accounts for our team. Please feel free to follow (there isn’t much there yet, content coming soon Instagram - frc9106, Facebook - FRC Team 9106 - Grand Rapids Catholic Central Spires, Twitter - @frc9106 and LinkedIn - First Robotics Team 9106: Spires).

This summer we plan on visiting all of our wonderful and generous sponsors. Without their support we wouldn’t have been as successful as we were this past year. Thank you! We have been brainstorming ways to reach out and draw in new team members.

Now that we’re all caught up to what we’ve been doing, let’s talk about this week’s fun…

This week Tuesday we sat with a small group and worked on refining our search for our new additional design. There was a lot of discussion between mentors and students about different design ideas. Watching video of other teams matches, scouring the web for a more definitive idea that we can narrow down and start to build.

On Wednesday our team visited team @enigmarobotics team 2075. They showed us their workspace and robot. We went there to look for collaborative ideas on how to improve our robot. It was helpful and we are very grateful to them for sharing their time and space with us.

Thursday we worked on compiling all of our research to refine what our improved design can be. A few of the potential new members of the team worked on instruction in Java using Codecademy. One of our team members worked on designing components using CAD.

A few of our team members submitted their CAD tutorial design projects to be 3D printed. Can’t wait to see how they turn out!

We will be taking next week off but look forward to getting back to work the week of 7/10.
