[FRC Blog] A Kit of Parts Survey Haiku for You

poems are complex
they can be of many forms
including haikus

Logistical support for FRC is one of Andymark’s strengths. I think the FIRST brand has been helped by Andymark logistical support as much the Andymark brand has been helped by connection with FIRST. The same kind of mutual brand benefit existed between FIRST and IFI, beginning several years earlier. Before we had FTAs trained at HQ, IFI provided similar technical support at every event.

FIRST is built on relationships like those, as much as it is built on major sponsorship, volunteers, and team-based community outreach.

OK - here’s the point: If I have to intentionally count the syllables to recognize it as belonging to some form (in this case Haiku), It ain’t poetry to me. Poetry should proclaim its poetricity subliminally.
Added: I wasn’t trying for it, but I think my last sentence above is better poetry than Haiku.

Not every 5-7-5 pattern of syllables is a “real” haiku, just as not every rhyming couplet is a “real” poem.

Yup, that is poetry.
I’m not exactly sure just why, but as I read they triggered my.

Added another bit of doggerel:
Poetry is much like jazz; 'can’t define’t but know what’t is.

from what we have for data MK batteries are decent much better than the SPS ones from 2019. Also is it a bad thing that I have the years and brands of the kop battery? However we don’t have a huge amount of data on MK batteries.

Not just the AM14U
They gave you compliant wheels too.
And the VEX motor box;
The Mini CIM rocks!
But the BAG? With no VP it’s poo.

I finished the entire survey. The options and format for the section to provide feedback on which motors you used is not great. Also the section on all the FIRST Choice stuff really needed an option for “Didn’t want and didn’t request”. Instead I ended up marking all these products as “Fair” when in reality many of them I’ve never laid hands on.

I just left those blank, but I agree that a box or improved instructions would be an improvement in the survey design.

Do hope they fix firstchoice next year.

Two things I would like to see:

  1. Part limit on everything until after second round
  2. Possibly a first round for only first/second year teams with a “Here’s our recommendation”
Up for discussion. I know new teams need a lot of stuff and it can be overwhelming trying to figure out what you need to prioritize. My rookie year as a mentor, we looked and had no clue what the hot ticket items were and mid-season didn’t use half the junk that was ordered.

You know what would be nice? A bunch of documentation in the rookie kit about everything in there. And a list of websites and stuff like CD, Compass Alliance, Spectrum.

One of our students was on a panel at Festival of Champions a few years ago to give direct feedback to the suppliers and this was the exact feedback she gave them. Even after a few years in FRC there is still stuff in the tote that makes me say “what would we ever do with this?” There is quite a bit of useful stuff, too, so I am not complaining. However, examples of what the suppliers envision their donations being useful for would be helpful to a lot of teams.

I was trying to keep it haiku length

I didn’t know CD was the place to go to for hot poetry takes!

So, Summer CD is a thing
Many opinions posters bring.
Keep the hot takes wholesome,
Don’t call others dumb.
Us mods don’t enjoy mass flagging.

The year 2020 a mess
Confusing, chaotic, and stressed
the game is replayed
The bots that we made
Next year have a chance at success.

But I digress.
