Registration is Open!

2023 MAY 23 | Written by Collin Fultz, FIRST Robotics Competition Senior Program Director

Registration for the 2024 FIRST ® Robotics Competition season, CRESCENDOSM presented by Haas, officially opened on Wednesday, May 17! Additionally, the season calendar has been updated for the new season. You can log into your account on the FIRST® Dashboard now to review and accept the policies for the new season and complete the Youth Protection screening if yours has expired. We also wanted to let you know of two exciting changes for registration.

First, lead mentors on teams can now re-invite their team roster from the previous season by following the steps on our Youth Registration System Overview page.

We’ve also updated the criteria that determines if new teams are considered “Rookie” or “New Veteran” teams. As a reminder, what’s listed on the page are guidelines. If teams feel there are special situations that fall outside the guidelines, we ask that they email [email protected]. We then work with local partners to determine the appropriate classification.

We’ve removed the requirement that Rookie teams have 2 or fewer mentors with FIRST experience. Rookie Teams are encouraged to recruit mentors with FIRST experience, and we think this will help create more sustainable Rookie teams.

Both Rookie and New Veteran teams are still eligible for the New Team Grant. Grant opportunities are listed on the Team Grants page, and the New Team Grant application will open later this summer.

This is interesting. As someone whose team is making a “New Veteran” team, I like this, but at the same time, will this take funds away from true rookies? I don’t know anything about this new team grant, is it something every rookie team would get or is there a limited amount of funds?

Edit: I’ve been told that this team might be a sibling team instead of a New Veteran team, but the question still stands.

I need to enthuse some!
I did the “Invite roster” yesterday, and I already have one kiddo completely registered!
Good news! Here’s what she had to say about it:

It was pretty straightforward, I just went to the dashboard, clicked on youth options, filled out the consent and release, then clicked apply to a team and just had to enter our team number.
