FRC Bot spotted on Disney channel

At lunch today Disney Channel happened to be on. I turn my head, and see a scene with a kid attacking a school with robots. Most looked to be made from vex kits… But in a cameo, I saw one of 207’s bots dancing around.

The show was “Best Friends Whenever”… The bot looked to be from this year (2015).

Being an LA team, it’s not that surprising… But I didn’t see any mention of this on CD, so there, I mentioned it.

It looks like 702 also was part of that show.

Yea I’m not really surprised, Rumor has it that Disney animated the Strong Hold video. I’m guessing they have some sort of partnership together.

From the FRC Blog, http://archive.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc/blog-The-Teaser-Is-Coming

Part of the reason this will be a big deal is because of who we’ve partnered with on this new approach to the season: the legendary storytellers of** Walt Disney Imagineering**. Imagineers are masterful at blending storytelling with creativity and innovation to create totally immersive and emotionally engaging experiences for millions of guests around the world.

Video on DailyMotion. Robots appear at 16:50 into the episode. There are 2013, 14, and 15 robots, plus the generic ones.

This weekend, I saw a Vex robotics commercial and a Meccano commercial on Disney XD. I’m glad that robotics is getting more publicity, especially with Disney. Looks like Disney is promoting more robotics in general. Now, if only we can get a FRC commercial airing…

Sidenote: the commercials aired during Phineas and Ferb and Gravity Falls, which are popular among older (think high school aged) viewers (compared to other Disney shows), so that’s good placement on Disney’s part.

High School students watching Phineas and Ferb?

I would say its closer to elementary/middle which is where a vex iq or Meccano kit would make sense.

Regardless it is still cool. I cut the cable personally so it would be cool if there were some YouTube/hulu commercials.

There was a vex commercial during the Star Wars premier.

I had friends who watched Phineas and Ferb in College, so :yikes:

As a mentor closer to retirement than high school I think P&F was a fantastically well thought out and presented show.

Good story telling and animation know no age limits.

well , disney and FIRST was old buddies, I have heard that old world championships were in Disney world. So i think this year will be a return of an old friendship.
