Having trouble with the compression of these rapid react balls for my intake this year. Can anyone recommend to me a good compression distance for 2 inch compliant wheels? Using a full bumper on my bot. Any help would be great.
Maybe posting CAD or a picture of the setup could help but I can give some antidotal advice.
With our intake this year we are using blue 2in compliant wheels (technically 2.25 inch). We start out by doing cad with simple geometry. Lay it out and see how the ball travels through the mechanism.

Few important notes. I made a red circle with an arrow. This area represents something that can happen a lot of with intakes. If the spacing is off it can create a dead zone where a ball doesn’t touch the roller. Most teams solves this by adding more “squish” or by having a kick plate/roller bar. Our team found about 1 to 1.5 inch squish is fine on the ball because the ball, wheels, and the bumper all squish. Do note that the more squish you put on the ball the more torque you’ll need on the motor you are using for the intake. For us we are running a falcon on a 5:1.
We needed to do this with our intake to lift the ball over the bumper. The key was either switching to 3" compliant wheels, or adding a “kicker bar” in front of the bumper to help the ball get through the dead zone.
