FRC Mafia 4 - Popcorn Mafia [Sign-Ups]

Before we begin this one, I have a quick announcement.

This will be the last Mafia game I am able to host on this site. I’ve really enjoyed hosting these games for you all, but after this it’s going to be up to you all to pick up the mantle of designing and hosting games, as I will not have time to for almost the rest of the entire year. I really do think we have a great community of people here on Chief Delphi, and I hope that a few of you decide to try out hosting a game of your own - it’s a lot of fun, and very rewarding.

Full Explanation of My Circumstances

I am excited to say that I have been selected to represent the University of Michigan and the United States of America at the World Solar Challenge 2019.

The World Solar Challenge is, as its name suggests, the single largest race exclusively for solar-powered vehicles in the world. The course stretches 3,000km across the Australian outback, spanning the entire continent. This year, it will begin on October 13th, and last approximately one week.

The University of Michigan Solar Car Team is, for all intents and purposes, Team USA. We came in 2nd place at WSC 2017, and this year we’re gunning to dethrone Vattenfall Solar Team (previously Nuon Solar Team) from the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, who took first place in 2017 and are unquestionably the world’s best. For now.

In order to prepare our upcoming car and our team for WSC 2019, I will be working 100 hours or more per week through the summer and into the fall, and will be travelling to Australia well ahead of the start of the race instead of taking classes next fall. This workload is the main reason I make this announcement today.

Obviously, working over 100 hours per week is quite the large commitment (a full-time job is usually somewhere in the ballpark of 40 hours per week, and they get paid). As such, my free time will be extremely limited, and it will not be possible for me to take part in any more games of FM from March through November.

All in all, however, I am excited to be able to represent my team and my country in Australia as we strive for the gold.

Thank you all for your time over the past two months on this site. I wish you all the best in my relative absence, and I can’t wait to be back in November.

Go Blue!

Sincerely,
Ian Stewart
University of Michigan Solar Car Team

In short, I hope you all enjoy this fun variation on the Forum Mafia formula, and I really hope you all continue to play more FM even after I am forced to stop taking part.

Thanks to all of you for playing.

FRC Mafia 4: Popcorn Mafia

Rules

  1. Follow the Chief Delphi forum rules.
  2. Be respectful to the hosts and your fellow players.
  3. Don’t be inactive. If you do not post meaningfully in any given phase, you will be prodded. Receiving two prods or failing to respond to a prod within 12 hours will result in your removal from the game.
  4. Do not quote/screenshot private host messages. They’re private for a reason.
  5. Don’t throw the game. Always play with the intent of helping your faction win.
  6. No editing or deleting posts for any reason without express moderator permission.
  7. No posting after majority is reached or at night. I can’t lock the thread, so I’m relying on you all to just follow this rule and not post. Repeated or egregious failure to comply will result in your removal from the game.
  8. Do not discuss the game outside of the game. Anywhere. It’s not worth it.
  9. It’s a game - have fun!

Gameplay

  • This game is played without day and night cycles.
  • Before the game starts, the Mafia must elect one Town player to be the gun-bearer.
  • That player has 24 hours to shoot another player. Discussion will take place during this time.
  • If they do not shoot another player within these 24 hours the gun-bearer will die and the gun will go back to the Mafia. The Mafia will then be given 12 hours to choose a new gun-bearer. Discussion will still take place during this time.
  • The gun-bearer is always announced and confirmed as a member of the Town.
  • The Mafia wins when the number of living Mafia members equal or exceed the number of living townies.
  • The Town wins when all Mafia players are dead.
  • The Mafia will talk through a PM chain I create. They may talk at any time.

Eliminations

  • There is no voting in this game. The gun-bearer takes the place of a elimination.
  • The gun-bearer must shoot publicly in the game thread by saying /shoot [player] , bolded and on its own line. You should also ping me by typing @orangeandblack5 in the same post.
  • If the gun-bearer hits a member of the Mafia, they keep the gun, a new 24-hour phase begins, and they may shoot again.
  • If the gun-bearer hits a member of the Town, the gun-bearer dies, a new 24-hour phase begins, and the targeted townie becomes the new gun-bearer.
  • If a player has been shot, stop posting until I can end that phase and start the next one.

Rolelist

The rolelist will be determined before the game starts. It may be re-sized depending on expressed interest. As such, joining here does not guarantee a spot in the game - you may be made a backup instead. Slots will be given on a first-come first-served basis.

To Join

Simply reply to this post with /join or similar. Again, you are not guaranteed a spot and may be made a backup, depending on how much interest is shown and how many people join.

F.A.Q.

  • What is Forum Mafia?
In case you missed the link at the top, here is a short guide from Mafia Universe describing the basics of Forum Mafia. In short, it is a variation of the party game Mafia (also known as Werewolf) that has been adapted to be played on forums.
  • What does _______ mean?
There is a great glossary of various Mafia terms that may be used on the Mafia Universe Wiki .
  • This is very different from the previous two games!
Indeed! Popcorn Mafia is a fun and fast variant that will allow me to host another game before I have to leave for good, and is one of my personal favorite games to play.
  • I’m still confused.
Feel free to ask me any and all questions you may have!

I heard some people say that there were a bunch of people they knew following along with the last game.

As long as you can agree to not talk about this one while it’s still ongoing, feel free to invite them to participate! This game is able to be scaled to many different sizes, so more players won’t hurt.

The game will not begin sooner than this Sunday evening.

Just woke up :joy: /join

Also I may take up the role of game master after this and switch to werewolf. It is the same game i just enjoy the fantasy aspect more plus since I own a deck I can use the pre-existing point values of the cards to make a balanced game and potentially have everyone be “special” or atleast more special classes

I personally always disliked Werewolf flavor, so won’t host it myself lmao

But hey, you can do whatever flavor you want. I’ve played in tons of games with Mafia flavor and Werewolf flavor alike, as well as many more that were neither! Pretty much whatever you can think of is fair game.

I can help host some of these events…

Of course, I don’t know I want to because it means I can’t play. Good luck @orangeandblack5 at your solar car race!
