FRC Rave - Would you go?

As I have been to the same regional many times and always being bored at night, it has come to my attention that other people get bored too! Also, many FRC students love electronic music, from what I have found out.

I think it would be fun to get a small venue and have a few good student DJs play some clean electronic music as a small show!

It would be $5 for FIRST participants if you had your team t-shirt on and $10 for non-FIRST participants. The only question is, would we have enough people come to the rave so that we could pay for it?

Comment *your *thoughts why you would or wouldn’t come to an event like this!
Any and all suggestions to make this better are appreciated!

Two notions, if you intend to do this during an event weekend:

  1. Lots of teams are bound by field trip rules that mean a teacher has to go.
  2. Do you really want a kid that’s been out raving using power tools the next day?

Not saying team-run events during competitions can’t happen–just look at RoboProm–but more details would be instrumental in judging its feasibility.

I’d rather have the soundtrack instead.

Honestly, I’m never bored event nights. After our strategy meeting, I’m usually hanging with my friends on the team. We usually bring board games and talk about robots. Oftentimes the hotel we’re staying in will have a pool, so we’ll swim a little bit.
Now if there were some sort of rave/party/thing, we might do that instead. But I’m not sure a “rave” is a good fit for FRC. Maybe I’m wrong.

Well, maybe not a full-on RAVE but you know, an FRC “party” that doesn’t run very late into the night and nobody’s drinking or anything like that, and yes it would be planned for a weekend event.

I’d rather have the soundtrack instead.

Do you mean this one?

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I want the Rave’s sountrack.

I’m not sure I completely get what you mean, do you mean you would rather have a soundtrack *of *the rave music we would play or something else entirely?

Soundtrack of the Rave music.

Okay! That would be easier then getting a venue and everything I guess!

Canada knew how to do it right back in the day…

YouTube “2002 Canadian Regional Team Party”. Three videos.

Not sure if that qualifies as a rave (there WERE glowsticks, though…), but yeah.

Note that they never did this again after the first year. I think Mark Breadner came to his senses.

That looks like a lot of fun, and that’s almost exactly what I was thinking except with some house music or something!

On the topic of a soundtrack instead of an event. I can make a playlist of songs on Youtube and post a link, but as I wouldn’t have the licensing to any of the music, I could not legally give or sell a soundtrack:/

100% yes. I’d have to see if I could work my way in as an electronic artist, as I make chiptunes. It’d be a good way for talented DJs or musicians to get recognized, and it would be a ton of fun.

I agree and I feel like a lot of FIRST student’s chaperones would let them go, given the times, cost, what’s happening and as long as it ended at a reasonable time.
