Hey guys! I wanted to take the chance to share a research project I have been working on for the past year. Before I talk about the project, let me introduce myself. My name is Andrew Lenart and I am a youth mentor from FRC Team 7651, and will going off to college next year.
This project uses 2019 scouting data from FRC Team 2791, as well as multiple other parameters from databases across the internet (ex. average income by county). With this project, I ultimately wanted to try to find statistical correlations between many different parameters, such as weight of a robot, age of a team, income from their county, etc. I hope you find this interesting, and please feel free to ask if you have any questions.
Background: not sure if the main audience of this paper is FRC people, but doing a brief section defining OPR, generally how it is calculated (not trivial), and other sources of data would go a long way to make it less mysterious. Not to mention a brief description of how an FRC game is played.
Additionally, coming from a education research perspective, the background section should let the reader know who collected the data, how, and any concerns the researcher has about the quality (any confounding variables?) of the data. Folks in-the-know can glance over this stuff and skip to the data, but FRC outsiders would appreciate it.
Correlation Coefficients (page 8): the Listing 1 only has the correlation coefficients for average points to other covariates. It would be nice to see the values for the other coefficients and not just trust the author.
3D Density Plots: you may see the data mostly on a plane but all I see are black dots! If you have access to color coding, please re-plot with low z-values being purple and high being red. ‘Back in my day’ using Mathematica I’d do density plots from top down with greyscale to denote height.
Hopefully you take that all as constructive criticism and not any sort of dig. I think it is awesome that you are undertaking such relevant research along with college professors!
