I’m sure that it’s been a long and incredibly nerve-wracking build season for all teams (especially for those who have drivetrains that jump the defenses…), but Team 610 would like to present our robot for FIRST Stronghold: Scorpion.
We think that this has been one of our most productive and smoothly-run build seasons yet, and we hope that FRC has had fun deciphering and breaking down Stronghold.
Seeing a lot of the powerhouse teams posting reveals these past few days has really shown how many strategies are viable in Stronghold. 610 decided apparently to score in the low goal only in order to decrease cycle times. I think it’s pretty cool to see how many different designs are being made - it reminds me of 2008’s Tumbleweed, in how less “capable” designs are being made strategically in some cases. However, one noticeable trend is that a lot of the powerhouses seem to be choosing to make climbers.
I mean I don’t know that they’re only doing low goals. If they were only doing low goals, they probably wouldn’t have built a separate appendage the way they did for the collector. My bet is just that the shot wasn’t tuned in time for filming, or has yet to be added.
Also, for everyone else in the thread, chill out. I know we wanna see mind-blowing stuff from every reveal video, but this is CD, and the crew on 610 worked hard to make a gorgeous machine that accomplishes quite a few game tasks. I guarantee 610 is going to be a major threat at any event they attend.
I think that’s the beauty of how diverse this game is, there’s not going to be one dominant design, the best alliances are going to have a combination of robots playing specific roles to succeed. As much fun as building a turreted shooter with vision tracking would be, it doesn’t play to our team’s strengths, where focusing on fast cycling/breaching does.
That’s not to say we can’t shoot high, we will probably average close to 1 high goal scored per match.
