I think you’re missing the fact that the bumpers are the “crust” of the robot
Hot take.
And wheat about it?
Do you mean pan? (French for bread)
Okay I’ll stop now
This might be something very niche but would really suck if a team got to the bumper stage and realized they cant make there robot legal. I suggest they make sure to at least write in the rule book near frame perimeter size in a blue box or something, something like this:
“Keep in mind bumper number visibility rules when deciding on the shape and dimensions of your frame perimeter(R406)”
I would just abuse the bumper rules and the gap between the bumper and frame for fabric/mointing hardware to get about an extra half inch of space…
That and play around with fonts. The rules specify font height, width isn’t policed beyond readability.
Bumper rules are broken and need to be revamped tbh, I’ve been saying that for years at this point.
We actually figured out how to do this, but are limiting the bumper to only one set of numbers. More of a proof of concept thing. We did in fact get a little more room on the end caps due to bumper misalignment!
Another point from your picture:
You can do corners of bumpers to maximize the length of a side. E.g. “wrap” the numbers on the corner.
I think fitting 9991 on there with space to spare is proof enough that things can fit without going to extreme measures.
Update:
We are planning on filming a proper robot reveal for Baguette sometime in October! Thank you to all who showed interest and cheered us on as we made this ridiculous robot!
For those going to the 2056 Ways to Inspire conference tomorrow, see you there!
UPDATE:
After some consideration, I am burdened proud to announce that Baguette will be attending the Southwest International 2024 offseason event. If you would like to go to this event yourself, registration is still open afaik and it’s shaping up to be a decent event. Here is the site for SWI:
https://772communications.wixsite.com/southwestint/teams
Additionally, We will be adding the following to Baguette as quality of life:
- The proper amount of bumper numbers
- Fixing bumper fit
- Buying red/blue gaffer’s tape to indicate allegiance
- Upgrading the UHMW ski to improve handling
- Auto mode development
Obviously since we are also working on Capacitor, our main offseason build, these priorities might not be completed in time. We will work to complete this list in order to ensure the robot passes inspection.
