FRC Top 25 Final Results. Recap Show Link

Thank you to everyone who tuned in last night for FUN Recap and the Final FRCTop25 for 2017. We had nearly 400 votes overall for the community final FRCTop25 and mixed with the Looking Forward Top 25 we are pleased to put together a encompassing product that reflects both regular season and championship play.

Big thank you to FRC Frank Merrick for coming on the show to talk Steamworks and Championships. You can tell that Frank is focused on continual improvement of all of our experiences in FIRST and we also found out which type of Pizza he prefers (you won’t believe his answer (click-bait ftw)).

FRC Top 25 Read Me

While no poll is perfect we at FUN wanted to come up with a way that could reflect on a team’s entire season performance. We knew that if we did a Post-Champs Community Poll that it would be both primarily focused on only champs performance and pretty biased for St. Louis teams. We reached out to Looking Forward to provide an Post-Champs Expert Poll that would then be weighted against the Pre-Champs Community Poll to reflect a teams overall performance for 2017. This provides a good indicator of a teams improvement from Pre to Post-Champs Some teams moved a lot and some moved slightly in the rankings.

Below are the results for this composite poll and we have also included the top 100 teams on the Pre-Champs Community Poll. We will not be displaying past the Top 25 for the composite poll and you can catch Looking Forwards post later this week. ** If you want to know where a team has landed on the community poll outside of the top 100 please post below or pm me.**

Can you fill in the gaps?

Where did 1058 end up?

Where did 900 end up?

Where did 1675 end up?

Yes.

And, don’t worry, the gaps will be filled in later this week.

FUN is really fun! Good Guy Frank is an outstanding guest – I had to watch the recording because I joined late.

The difference between pre- and post- CMP polls was interesting. 973 was a bit underrated by the pre- CMP community. 2767 and 3310 were significantly underrated.

On the Pre-Champs Community Poll:

FRC900 T140th
FRC1058 T200th
FRC1675 T305th

Forgot to mention that there were 687 teams that received a vote in the Pre-Champs Community Poll.

I think they should just leave 21 & 22 as “missing,” so that all the other teams that aren’t mentioned can say

“yeah, that’s us.”

For example:

“Where did 2168 end up? Oh, 22? Yeah, that’s us.”

^+1! Just plug in your favorite team number.

BTW, 2168 was pretty high up on my list.

Our team’s were in the same hotel! Loved those T-shirts (with formula for average)!

Super disappointed in this poll. 5687, The Outliers, from NE District have been absolutely robbed. I don’t think there is any reasonable argument that says they are not the best gear bot in the world. I have seen no other robot that can get 7 gears a match, every match. IMO they should’ve cracked the top 10.

Edit: Changed number to appease Bailey, since he has data and I have general feelings and hyperbole.

I love me some Outliers,

but this data is just absurd…

125 was at 4 events with the Outliers this year (Boston, Pine Tree, NEDCMP, Carson) and they never peaked above 7 gears in a single match.

Don’t get me wrong, they are for sure a top 3 Gear Runner in the world, but check your numbers, pal.

Did you actually scout other events or are you just going on what you’ve personally seen? Also since you don’t even have data on why 5687 is the best in the world how can you say they are better than 604/2168/610/4939/340/3310/etc etc etc?

Finally got the chance to watch the beginning of the stream today. Thank you so much for the congratulations, and of course for all that you do for FUN and FIRST! Looking forward to next year and to see what you have in store for the off-season!

Well lots of hostility to unpack there but here we go:

Less than 7 gears consistently: 604, 4939, 340, 3310, etc

Around 7 gears consistently: 610, 2168

From my experience in the NE district, I think none would argue that 5687 was the gearbot in the district.

When it comes to the determination between 610 and 5687, that is more hazy.

610 - ended with 3 event wins, 52 match wins, 1 finalist appearance, seeded 18th in Darwin, made it to Darwin finals.

5687 - ended with 2 event wins, 60 match wins, 1 finalist appearance, seeded 6th in Carson, placed 4th on Einstein. Set world high score of 445 twice week 1.

It’s close but I think by results, 5687 deserves it. I have a hard time seeing arguments otherwise.

I love 2168 too,

but 125’s scouting data never has them peak above 6 (including auto) pre-CMP. They may have done it on their division, but I’d hardly call it consistent if they only did it at one event.

Please check yourself with numbers, Piers…

Then please Bailey, let’s hear what the mighty — has to say on the subject. What do you call consistent? Who do you think is better than 5687 at gears?

Edit: I find it curious that this is your third recent post claiming you love a NE team before claiming they aren’t particularly good.

Edit 2: Removed team number. Obviously, I never should’ve made a post criticizing a specific team. I will leave the rest up here, I don’t believe in hiding mistakes.

If you want to open the Hostility can of worms, that’s on you.

I never argued 5687’s gear ability. We picked them for a reason didn’t we? They’re freakin’ awesome at what they do, and have become one of 125’s closest friends. One of the top gear robots in the world, no question in my mind.

However, I will say that you are pulling numbers out of you know where, and that you should check yourself before debating on the subject. If I wasn’t going to check you on them, someone else would have. As to the final comment, I never said a team wasn’t particularly good. Read my posts again, all I did was clarify numbers, some of which were absolutely absurd.

I wouldn’t say that 3rd best means “not particularly good”… 3rd best in a field of 3000 teams is still really darn good.

I have a mug that says “world’s 3rd best dad”. I don’t feel slighted at all, there have to be at least a billion dads out there.
