How many votes did you receive from each region?

We received around 350 votes total. Off hand I don’t have individual breakdowns but typically FiM is near the higher %.

What does “NA” mean for the ELO ranking?

With the change to 7 alliances in West Valley event the way it was put into FMS didn’t allow @Caleb_Sykes to calculate ELO for these teams. So NA is not available.

This ranking must be a joke lol, especially considering people thought 176 was not at least top 2.

Tyler says the sample size is about 350 total responses. So maybe 60 or so from Northeast? Of those, how many are just voting for teams they like, or have seen personally? I would call the effect under-sampling, as opposed to bad humor.

Oof, yeah that’ll do it. Must be lower participation this season that most years due to everything going on :frowning: Sad.

This is not true actually. Prior to 2019 we never broke top 10’s down by region before. Originally we posted Top 10’s in regions based on voting from everyone but feedback we received indicated regions liked the idea of seeing a different data set which in this case isolated only voters from those regions. If this was any other year I would just encourage more voters but seeing as most events are not cancelled week 3 and beyond I think that will be hard to come by.

I took the Northeast accounting for all votes from all regions. Quite a bit different.

While I agree Aces certainly deserve a spot at/near the top (12-0 sweep what more can you ask for?), top25 ranks have never been a good indicator of performance nor capability.
…it’s for fun or something

Looks like they got the recognition deserved from outside NE

This argument can go on forever. Take the poll as you will. We added ELO as a separate ranking(not perfect either) and they tend to be pretty close to each other. Akash was talking about Top 10, not Top 25 in this case. Top 25 seems to have 176 right where he said they should be.

Exactly. FUN polls are for fun, not a real analysis of the best teams. Having public voting enables bad data, so I never expect much out of the rankings. Crowdsourcing scouting data would probably be the best way to rank teams, but that takes a lot of work.

I think a lot of the negativity that comes towards the top 25 gets perpetuated by you defending it’s integrity as a legitimate ranking of teams so adamantly. It’s blatantly obvious that the compiled lists are not great. Are they the worst? No. Can any ranking/prediction be perfect? No. The rankings are extremely biased towards popular opinion. (Obviously). The obvious top teams still trend towards the top of the charts.

The rankings always are a little bit troll, but that’s okay. It’s nice to see that some teams regularly get support and ranked in the regional top 10. Just let people make of it as they wish, and don’t claim it to be some sort of amazing ranking and battle with anyone who doubts that on a chief thread.

Stuff like this…

Why can’t this ranking just be fun? Encourage teams that people feel got snubbed to be voted for next time instead of trying to defend a flawed setup for ranking teams.

I have to say, I certainly enjoy the clips of the week segments… they’re definitely fun.

Woah woah woah. I want to be clear here that I wasn’t attacking the top 25 or rankings and I also don’t think Tyler is trying to perpetuate anything. My comment was literally pointing out that the top 10 was funny because of the teams mentioned in it. At no point do I take it seriously, and I don’t think Tyler ever has either.

Yeah I missed some crazy things shown in the vid this week, like 2767 getting decapitated by the color wheel.

I didn’t take any offense to it. I don’t intend to come off as defensive either, just responding.

Look in the past small but loud groups of people tend to brush off the FRC Top 25 because it’s community voted. I never said it was a perfect statistic or data point. From other comments in the past (not here today) I do find it annoying that just because a poll isn’t the way someone wants it that the 300-500 people who voted are wrong or their opinions or votes are invalid. These are still people in FIRST voting. It’s completely fine to say you don’t agree with rankings but I don’t think it’s fine just to brush off the opinions of several hundred people. If you prefer we can call it the 500 person in FRC Top 25 opinion poll. Doesn’t roll off the tongue as well but we can consider it.

I agree let’s continue to make it fun. We’re not perfect, but we do listen and respond to community feedback and in general if you look at our growth I would say that many have appreciated it.
