Thanks to Orangemoore for posting the Top25 Teams on the other thread. Here’s the completed list. Do you think the community and expert poll missed anyone? Who do you believe should have received the #1 spot?
After crunching the numbers I really like the community, expert system, and not just cause we were number 1.
The only thing I am worried about is a situation where the number 1 and 2 are flopped between expert and community because the experts hold much more power in the top 3 rankings then the community does based on points.
One thing that may be just like a cool shout out to do is the honorable mentions: Teams that if the rankings would have been done either pure community, or pure expert would be a top 25, so this week would be: 2590, 1296, 1218, and 1418 (Community Ranked 20, 21, and 23, and Expert Ranked 24), Personally I would do it during your break before the top 10 so as not to give away some of the bottom ranked teams but also to give recognition to some lesser known teams whose efforts were recognized one way or another. Though I understand strapped for time and all but it still would be kind of cool.
I have to say for 33 to be at the top after not moving for several matches makes me shudder a little. I can’t wait to compete against them (hopefully) at MSC.
I like the idea of having it split 50/50 between experts and the community but I find I’m surprised at the experts rankings, I disagree with them a lot. I can’t believe they ranked 33 has #1 and 3683 as #6 I agree 100% with the community rankings especially in the top 10.
One thing to point out too is that the experts do not know who any of the other experts are. They are all mentors on FRC teams and spread out through North America.
Dude did you see 33 this weekend? They were far and away the best robot week 1 once they started working. Nothing against 179, they have a phenomenal machine as well, and I know for a fact from working with them that they’re incredibly smart too, but 33’s machine IMO outclassed the rest of Week 1.
The fact that they gave the rest of Waterford a 4 match handicap and still made it to be the 8th seed is a testament to their ability. There are only a handful of teams that could possibly pull something like that off.
179 is a fantastic robot this year and well deserving of a high ranking, but I can’t second this enough. I was scared all day Friday that someone else was going to seed first and pick 33 because we didn’t stand a chance at beating them (I’m surprised we were community voted above them). They are by far the best team we’ve seen in MI so far and I hope we get the chance of playing with them again at MSC once both our robots are working at full capacity - aka we can actually score high.
Just curious: for those who voted (experts or nonexperts) how did you determine which teams ranked where? Did you watch matches of all teams, rely on OPR, acquire scouting stats from teams at the events, talk to teams at the events, look at alliance selection, other ways? With all these events, it’s really hard to get good representations of all the teams.
Edit: I’m not taking a shot at FRC Top 25 or the specific 25 teams voted. I used to vote in these things before it became too much to keep track of all the teams. Interested to see how others approached it.
I voted based on any robots that I had seen matches of. I know this isn’t a perfect way of voting, but I trust that the other 100 or so people that watched will balance out regional preferences at least somewhat (and I think the final rankings are pretty good in that regard).
Yea… once they started working. I saw potential for a great bot yes but they had a rough start so I wouldn’t rank them first. 3683 on the other hand was consistently performing at the top of their game for the entire regional at GTR Central. And 3683 is probably one of the best low shooters we’ll see, their average cycle time was around 12 seconds, they flew over defenses like 118 in their reveal and they hung. Once again they did all of that consistently throughout Friday and Saturday.
