Wow! What an incredible stream we just had! If all payments process we will have collected $638.25 in donations for the FIRST in Texas Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund!
Thank you thank you everyone for helping make this happen. I am flabbergasted that so many of you came together. We had some big $100 donations too that really made it happen but every $ counts! Yes we will be doing some extra shows for hitting our goals so stay tuned!
I got a glimpse of 330’s pick list at Beach Blitz. The one team on there was 1717.
Would be interested in knowing where FRC64 ended up–Gila! Gila! GilaGilaGila!
And I’ll admit to trolling the lists. 7 of the team numbers I put down map to 3 teams, 2 of which are currently active. (I thought of doing one or two others, too, but decided against it.) Careful what you wish for, Tyler!
I will confess to doing the same thing as well. Examples of things that I did were voting for 2949/2451, 47/65/51, 1717/5818, and 64/39. By the way, while we’re on the topic of trolling, who else put their own team at 1?
The only thing I wished for was people to contribute to the stream so we can make an awesome contribution to the Harvey Fund and that came true ;).
FRC64 man that’s a team that went out on a bang. Championship finalists and they end they don’t compete the following year (anyone got a story for that)?
FRC39 is part of the answer.
So is FRC1013.
So is another team that I don’t remember the number.
My understanding is that 64’s school(s) and main sponsor(s) were unable to work together anymore. I don’t know the details, but 64 split into teams 39, 1013, and another team. At one point there was a team sponsored by 64 but not sure what was up with that.
If Ken Lloyd were still around he’d be the one to ask, but he passed a while back. The following spring, the Arizona Regional got one final Gila Dance in his memory.
I’ll add a little bit to what Eric mentioned. 64 was made up of three high schools (Highland, Queen Creek, and Gilbert if I remember correctly) that ended up splitting into three separate teams. Highland became 39, Queen Creek became 1013, Gilbert was very short lived and I cannot find the number, I think they were the Jag Bots or something like that. The schools split primarily because of the loss of their main sponsor, GM was slowly reducing operations at the nearby proving grounds in Mesa and eventually closed the facility completely in the late 2000’s. Without GM’s backing I don’t think they had a common work place that could fit students from all three schools. 39 stopped doing FRC shortly after Ken Lloyd passed away, 1013 lasted a little longer but also folded as teachers and parents moved on. 39 did go on to do FTC and some other competitions for a little while, there is still a history page up from Highland HS that gives more details:
Members of 39/64 still work with 842 now and you will see the Team 39 patches on a lot of Falcon Robotics’ shirts. GM moved what was left of their Arizona proving grounds down to Yuma around 2007 and the mentors who moved their reincarnated the Gila Monsters as team 3785 at Yuma High School. Sadly I was just checking them now and it appears they did not come back for the 2018 season
