(FTC) Sandpaper legality

Hi guys! I’m new here, so I’m not sure if this is being posted in the right category (sorry).

Anyways, my FTC team wasn’t sure whether sandpaper would be legal or not as it does/can damage the glyph blocks a bit by scraping them. We are using 60 grit sandpaper for grabbing glyphs.

Could anyone please clarify whether sandpaper is legal and if it counts as field damage? Thanks.

The only answer that counts is the official FTC Q&A forum.

That said, I’d be very leery of sandpaper as a grip surface and would suggest looking at alternatives. (Shelf liner is a cheap, locally-sourceable thing to start with; adhesive-backed rubber material from a site like McMaster-Carr would be a good thing to consider too.)

You know what the sensible answer is, you just don’t want it to be that answer.

You can do better than sandpaper anyway. Try vetwrap, try thick vinyl or electrical tape, try random rubber bits… the season is young, you can find a way to compete that won’t damage field pieces.

EDIT: Billfred has the technically correct answer - the formal Q&A forum, not CD, is in fact the only place you can get a definitive answer.

why not use something like shelf lining material instead? it grips well and it won’t harm the field.

Because vet wrap comes in so many more colors :stuck_out_tongue:
