Full Court Shot

After watching some YouTube videos (namely, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evXyQxcKEZY) and developing our shooter, I have discovered that teams will be capable of shooting from much greater distances than I anticipated. Because of this, I am wonder what the likelihood of teams being able to park in their loading station and just shoot consistently into the 2 point goal effectively scoring up to 90 points (45 disks * 2 points/score) in the match. Any thoughts on this?

I doubt you will see consistent full-court shots. I think the farthest you will see is from the back end of an alliance’s pyramid.

This strategy will likely work in some qualifying rounds. It would not be viable in any elimination match though. It would be easy to block the shots being made by simply parking a defender in front of the shooter.

This seems like an interesting gameplay approach, if your shooter has the range and accuracy. However, it is not a choke-hold. G22 limits your robot height to 60 inches, because it is not touching your alliance’s auto zone or pyramid. The opposing alliance robots will be in their own auto zone, so they can extend to 84 inch height to try and block your shots. Of course they have to do that without actually contacting your robot, to avoid the G30 foul.

I wonder if an opposing robot could park itself in a position that would both block your robot’s long range shot, and give a good angle for its own shots?

Seem like you have the same idea as me  (1 point is right across from that position)

About that video… safety glasses anyone?

That will be a shot that is worth a team practicing and developing, however it will not work past qualifications unless a team sets up a blocking system where one robot blocks for another one shooting. If a team figures out a way to implement this shot without it being defended, we could see someone easily making even 50% of these and putting up some huge points.

It would be worth picking up a robot that can extend up to 84" if only to stop the possibility of the other alliance using this shot against you.

I dunno…shooting 50+ feet and shooting 50+ feet with some degree of accuracy are two different things. I’ve got friends that can hurl a hammer throw a good 20 yards, but man you have to run to catch the dang thing. Point is, if you can get a robot with pin point accuracy AND an undefended line to the goal from that low, you probably don’t need to worry about putting that many points up anyways.
