FULLY Articulated Arm?

Ok, I’m a senior now, and some juniors from my team brought in some pcitures from the net (i don’t have them now) of a robot capping a goal with an arm that looked liked Doc Oc

It was Red (and had less points of articulation than Doc Oc’s arms - about 10?) but it looked amazing!

i’ll try and get the pic, but does anyone know who i’m talking about?

As a starting point, you might take a look at the thread I started for a similar project http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39773

yes i read that, which was quite a coincidence (both of us thinking about the same thing at about the same time) but it has nothing to do with what i’m talking about… (i think)

i want to know, what team built it, get more pictures of it, see how it worked and hear how well it performed…

Thanks anyway!

is it from last year? or some other year? and would you happen to have a link to the picture?

Or at least which regional it was at? (along with which season).

All you need is a team number, and if it was from a competition and the rules state that a team number must be visable from all 4 sides, then you’re good to go.

If it was from a competition event that is.

If it was a pre-ship pic, chances are a number may be missing.

ok, i found out everything. i was wrong…
the team is team 191, and like i said in the first post, i was talking about 2005.

here are some pics, you can see the source of my confusion:
Pic 1
Pic 2
Pic 3
Pic 4
Pic 5

Sorry for my stupidity :stuck_out_tongue: (to my defense i will say that the picture the juniors showed us was a pixelated close up of Pic 1)

Ummm…I’m not sure it’s as articulated as you think. It appears that the arm is made out of pvc, and all the joints aren’t articulated. The curve at the end appears to be so to allow their end effector to stay inline with the main arm. Although that is one pretty pimp end effector. It swivels! So I count 3 joints, and one pimp grabber! ( shoulder, elbow, wrist, pimp grabber)

Anyone from 191 want to help us out?
----------EDIT----------------------------------
I don’t think you could make a ten joint arm in first, barring pnuematics. 4 cims, 1 window, 1 van door, 1 jideco, 2 fisher price, a globe, and a machubuchi. Soooo…with 2 drive motors, you’re 1 motor short. But…a nine motor arm could be done…

Maybe next year!

We tried a three jointed arm in 2003 with a pnuematic claw at the end and another pnuematic claw/plow at the base. The whole arm was about 9’ long and could be laid down flat and went under the 14" bar. We used all but one motor (van door?). Unless you are really good at programming a great control system, be careful about two many articulations, we found it very difficult to control it all during the heat of competition - but it was a lot fun!
