On Monday’s Let’s Draw Robots, FRC Director Frank Merrick will coloring live on air with host Kristine Atiyeh from FRC125 and Word Play All Day. Frank will discuss the registration process this season, the FIRST Gala this past weekend, and what it’s like to be Frank for a day. Also after Tyler will talk about the future of FUN for the 2018 season. We’re giving away a Championship winner sticker sheet and Frank’s autographed drawing (if we can pry it away from him).

My question for Frank:

Is it true that you run the firstinspires.org website on Raspberry Pi’s powered by super capacitors?

My question for Mike:

What would be your “perfect date” to take an RD on to get your team off a waitlist?

Marshall trying to get another rule in the rule book have his name on it.

For Frank:

FIRST has been asking for teams to help MakeItLoud for some time now. While we have clear rules for use of FIRST Trademarks and logos in our material, there is no rule, guideline, or permission for FIRST media, especially match video. As streaming and video production quality at events rises, this video is often the best choice (if not the only choice for resource or other reasons) for teams to use either in self-promotion, or overall evangelism of the team/program/FIRST.

Can we get clear permissions from FIRST to use official match videos from regionals, districts, Champs, and FoC for the 2018 season?

I heard tell the legacy usfirst.org site was run off an actual God-to-honest raspberry pie. Crust and all.

That question for Mike is pure gold. Thanks for making my day a little better

Marshall Please Note FIRST is using custom made Raspberry Pi cases with integrated Pi & super caps; they refuse to offer them via FIRSTchoice. Please get to the bottom of this, if not for your sanity at least for the community’s :stuck_out_tongue:

For the FUN crew: You seriously have those two on separate nights? When are you going to get them on the same night, add a certain Zebracorn, start them discussing stuff, and sit elsewhere with a bleep button and a mute button?

:p:p:p:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I lost my sanity when I opened The Zebranomicon for the first time.

I am trying to get to the bottom of this though… I’ve heard they keep them in the basement of a pizza restaurant that only offers pineapple as a topping.

It’s called Candidly Speaking not Jerry Springer :stuck_out_tongue:

For Frank: What is your favorite color?

Also for Frank:
What is your name?
What is your quest?

For both Mike and Frank:

What, in your opinion, has been the largest upset in FRC? (Can apply to matches, events, or waitlist picks. Up to them).

Looking forward to the 19-hour FUN holiday special next month :ahh:

hmmmmmm… This isn’t a bad idea actually. We could do a FUN marathon for charity or something like that. I’m up for any ideas on what we could do for 19 hours (maybe 24).

I think there’s a person in the OP who needs a new hyphen in their name.

Congrats!

I love how a sarcastic idea goes on to generate an amazing idea. A fun-thon sounds like an amazing event I would love to take part in. Reminds me of some of the ridiculous ideas various people come up with that turn into actual great solutions to the challenge.

My favorite: in 2010, one student came up with an idea in initial brainstorming idea of creating a tornado generator to gather the balls and shoot them into the goals. This idea was written down and spurred another idea, to use air suction to pull the balls towards the robot. We later adopted this as our final solution, and it worked incredibly.

A recap of the strategy, drama, and behind the scenes of each season starting with Maize Craze. I am sure current students would be very interested in a cool history of the sport. Kind of like and espn special with 1 hour focusing on each year.

Maybe raise some $ for FIRST in Texas. I think they’re still looking for $20k

We’ve done a bit of this for our mock kick-offs. You could definitely fill an hour if you are committed to the research. Tell the story of how games were conceived and analyzed, any interesting rule interpretations, which strategies were successful and how gameplay changed all the way to einstein. Throw some interviews in there and boom you have a show.

Second question for Frank - Where can I get an RAO shirt?
