A very special announcement that for both this week and next weeks show: We will have two members from the Rules Review Committee revealing themselves and taking Q&A from you about their impact on the Steamworks game. The Rules Review Committee is comprised of respected members of the FRC community that are brought in at a critical stage of game design to give FIRST their unvarnished feedback on the game and what may need closer attention.
Our first member of the Rules Review Committee on the show will be Jared Russell of FRC254 and FRC341 fame.
What questions do you have for Jared about his role in the rules review committee? Post below.
Kristine from Word Play All Day is Back with another sweet robot drawing which she will be giving away! Make sure you follow or subscribe to the channel to win!
Did the rules committee have insight into scoring weight?
Was fuel worth a lot more at some point?
If you can divulge / if you know, was pressure required for spinning rotors or “having robots take off” at an earlier stage?
Great question!! When the game was first revealed, that is how I thought the pressure was somehow tied into the other game elements and higher weighted working in conjunction with the rotor or takeoff points. If so, I think that could have really changed how the game and robots turned out.
The severity of diminishing returns on the main teleoperated objective was considered by many to be the second biggest issue with the 2011 game. Was this considered in developing the scoring model for gears in Steamworks?
Was there consideration to only including two touchpads on the airship? It seems this simple change would make play in earlier weeks much more tolerable and seeding less dependent on schedule.
With regard to the role of the Rules Review Committee, would members of that board be able to give input on point values attached to scoring objectives in the game? More simply put, would anyone on the committee be able to say “1 kPa is equal to 3 HEB shots or 9 LEB shots”?
Also, does the Rules Review Committee still meet, decide, and/or discuss rule changes in each Team Update, including the ones made for potentially subtracting pre-populated gears or adding points to the tower strength in 2016?
