Fusion 360 - machinist notes?

New to cad this year, we’re doing some basic chassis design to learn on Fusion 360. We don’t have access to a cnc, so we’ll be doing some milling by hand. What I was wondering is if there’s a way to give a drawing with dimensions on it that I can hand to the person doing the mill work so they know where to locate holes? Or is there a better way to do this, besides finding a cnc? Thanks!

You can use the drawing work space of the program. It can be accessed by using the drop down on the top left.

Or just use Inventor instead…

I second this.

Inventor has a very user friendly way to make drawings. I just recently made up some brackets to mount versa planetaries to 2x1 tubing for fast prototyping and made up some quick drawings for manufacturing to use.

I understand the want to streamline everything into one program (what Fusion claims to do), but it does lack in many areas, and drawings are one of those areas.

So what does inventor do better than fusion in regards to drawing? I’ve never used inventor before, but I haven’t found fusion difficult to use… granted, I’m not doing terribly complex things yet…

Every team uses whichever CAD program they do for a number of reasons, usually specific to the team.

We have used Inventor, Solidworks, and F360 and have settled on F360 going forward. The school computers have Solidworks, but an older version than the license they gave us from the Virtual KoP. School IT couldn’t get inventor to install correctly with their management software, and F360 works well with our Shopbot, and the collaboration is excellent. Not to mention cross-platform (we have several students with Macs).

Yes, F360 has some issues, but there’s no need to knock the software.

As to the OP’s question. Yes, there is a drawing mode - from the File menu (in the model you want the create a drawing from) choose “New Drawing” and “From Design”.

Also Autodesk does publish a bunch of videos on F360 on Youtube, or if you need help with F360, just ask.

You’re right, and I apologize. Fusion has the capability to do all of these things.

I should probably get a bit more on the bandwagon before I get left behind and fusion has every capability that inventor or other suites have. It is really just a matter of time at this point.

Doing Drawing in AutoFusion 360 is really easy.
Here is a link to their website with some tips and tricks:

You can find the drawing function under the model tab, all the way at the bottom. It is pretty straight forward to use. To add dimensions, use the dimension tool. You can also add center lines. Try experimenting with it.

For large assemblies you can use the table and bubble tool to show which parts are which.

Fusion 360, while not as hyped up as Inventor or Solidworks, is a decent program. Many colleges across the country are going to start using it, because it less intensive on your computer and teaches you the same skills that you can learn with any 3d modeling program.

I have created a number of Fusion 360 projects that are posted on the Autodesk Design Academy website. They all include lessons on creating drawings. Let me know if the previous link to creating drawings is enough or if I can walk you through the steps required.
